Default All four headlights stay on

All four headlights stay on all the time. They do dim when it appears to be on low beam but the high beam light stays on the dash. Have replaced the headlight harnesses and dimmer switch. What to check?

I had a similar problem (3 lights on) and it was shorted wiring inside the headlight buckets. Did you check or replace those? Also look at the wiring from the hi-beam switch on the floor.

Make sure all the black wires to the headlights are making a good ground connection to the screw on the radiator support.

Since you've already REPLACED the dimmer, and you've changed the wiring harness, and assuming you don't have any wires crossed in the harness, the only common connection is the ground. Another assumption I made is that you had the problem before you changed all that and it didn't fix it. If it started AFTER you replaced the wiring, you may have a bright and dim wire reversed in the plug on either side from the manufacturer that is allowing both bright and dim voltage to reach all the bulbs. That would also feed it back to the dash indicator as you stated.

Exactly the problem I had when my '61 returned from the painter. They'd put things back together incorrectly

Yes I had the problem before I replaced dimmer and headlight harness
Will check grounds today. Have been trying to locate wiring diagram to check wire colors to be sure it is correct. Both sides were missing the plastic plug where the headlight extensions plug into harness.

Thanks the black and green wire were crossed. Changed that and took care of high beams but the high indicator is still on.

I'd offer to post a diagram here, but you haven't mentioned the year of the car, nor is it in your profile.

Does the high beam indicator stay on both dim and bright?

GM wiring diagram as well as laminated copy of GM wiring diagram from Lectric Limited is also incorrect.

When I restored my car, I bought the headlight extensions (pigtails) from Zip whose supplier was not LL. Both pigtails were wired in accordence with the incorrect wiring diagram. Took me awhile to figure out. The green and black wires wrer reversed in the pigtail.

If you want a photo of the corrected wiring diagram, I'll take a picture for you.

I assume your Corvette is a 1967 since your profile mentions Marina Blue.

Yes it stays on either way. Dims slightly on low beam. Good news is I can drive at night!
