Default Heater Box Y Duct

When I bought my '66 many years ago it didn't have the lower Y duct on the heater box, could not find an original so purchased a "reproduction". So, now mocking it up to see if the holes in it match the holes in my original radio side panels I found they are not even close.

Heater box is hard up against the firewall. First pic is the passenger side, second is the drivers side. It's hard to imagine how someone could reproduce these so badly, so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of what else the cause may be.

Is your center section at the bottom in the correct location...tight against the little nub that sticks up on the tunnel...

If you haven't already done so, I think you will need to remove the radio first in order to see what 66jack is referring to. Does your console fit around the lower vertical dash section with no spaces? Bill

Is your fire wall insulation in correct? It doesn't cover the whole firewall and is cut around mounting holes of the heater box. It could hold your heater box off the fire wall and the Y won't fit. Also your Y duct as pictured is not level that will change mounting?

Heater box is hard up against the firewall, no insulation in the way. Center vertical portion of the dash is fixed in its original position.
The center console fits perfectly.

only way to make certain if the repro is such a bad fit, someone here should take some measurements of the original so you can compare that with your repro. Sorry I can't do this because I am waiting for my repro Y duct to arrive.

Ok Buns, based on your comments, the dash is in position where it should be so lets compare my original 66 Y duct to your repo to see whats going on. My car is totally apart as I'm in the middle of a body-off restoration so I dug out my Y duct and took some pictures. I can easily provide any measurements. You'll have to take yours out so we can measure things accurately. Bill

That is the one (actually the part # is 452018). But that was many years ago and looking at the pics on their website today it appears they offer an improved version compared to the one I bought. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Here are some pictures of the Y duct I got from Corvette Central in 2007. The one they sell now looks a lot different, perhaps they had problems with the old one.

Zip 159. Corvette central 179, seems a lot for plastic piece.
Got to wonder why these are not in are cars as should be?
Corvette central only list this part for year 64 to67. I phoned to ask if 64 part would fit my63, they said might need some alteration?

That's anther one year only part. Goes with your one year only heater box. Someone who knows more about 63 will tell you what's diffreant

Buns, not sure whats going on with your Y duct as your dimensions are the same as my original Y duct. The only difference I note is that my vertical tab has a 2nd hole 5/8" lower than the top hole where the screw actually goes into. Bill

^ Thanks for taking the time to check those measurements. I was thinking of buying a used original (for $190.00!), but now I will probably "modify" the one I have.
