Rebuild the Holley with a $40 kit and try it out. That's what I'd do.

I'd go with the Holley, because it looks right in your car. I'd definitely send it to a CF recommended rebuilder, who can do things you cannot do with a normal rebuilding kit.

This is what I'm thinking.

My '65 came with a 4 barrel rochester that was never used on Corvettes (as well as the incorrect intake manifold).

I bought a correct Winters aluminum intake and a Holley 2818-1 from sellers on the parts forum here, and am preparing to install them. Neither are correctly date-coded for my car; however, you can't see the intake date code (on the bottom), and inspecting the carb is only for NCRS judges, which will probably never see my car.

The correct type Holley will look right and with the right rebuild, can power your car nicely.

Depends on how much you want to spend and what your goal with the car is

Goals would include a carb that is sized right for the engine, reliable, and tunable. Using one of the ones I have would be a big plus. Using the Holley would be a plus as I like how it at least looks original. I would send it to Lars and get it rebuilt. If that Holley is a good fit for the engine, then I'd lean torwards getting that one rebuilt.

Holley are easier to work on as far as float level as they have external adjustments. You have to pull the front bowl to change jets and power valves, but not a big deal. The Holley may require jet changes and power valve changes to get good performance and some decent economy.

I have run AFBs (Eldebrock) on my street cars for years as I can fine tune (change) the primary circuits (metering rods) without pulling the carb apart, if the jets are correct. I get better economy with the same performance from an AFB as I do from an equal size Holley.

I am not an expert at anything, just an old man with plenty of knocks on my head. If you are not into the numbers matching thing, the AFB will do just as well as the Holley when both are properly tuned.

If you want numbers matching, get out your pocket book.Holley doesn't make any completely correct replacements that I know of.

If your engine is still basically stock, i.e heads, valvetrain, displacement, etc, then it wouldn't be such a bad idea to find a service replacement for the original Holley 2818-1 - maybe from one of the big carb rebuild/exchange outfits - and give them your non-original style Holley as a core. Nothing works better on a stock engine than a stock carb. The Edelbrock you could sell on that auction site.

I hear ya! I get a lot of that around here. I also agree with your statement on the Holley. But Holley is the BESTWAY to go!

PS: Doesn't anyone on here do their own work? Seems like the hire out all the fun stuff
