Default FML What a dumb move.

I was replacing the heater core and glove box liner, and I had the dash apart. The damn dog was whining, so I let her out in the garage where I was working and tied her up on a long lead to keep her out of the street. Of course she shot after a squirrel and hooked the lead on the glove box door dragging it across the driveway. It seems every scratch and ding I get inside and out is because of something stupid.

Some times all you can do is shake your head. You've heard of Murphy's Law? Well, Murphy was a Corvette guy.

It's the adult auto hobbyist version of "The dog ate my homework."

At least it's almost November. Sounds like a winter project just came up.

Thanks for posting. It's always nice to hear that I'm not the only dumb a$$ on the forum!

Reminds me of the words from Mr. Croom, my high school shop teacher back in 1962. He made us put our knee under the drill press table when raising or lower it. He said, "If it falls, Mother Nature will heal your leg. She won't do anything about my drill press."

We've all been there. I had the front of my '61 up on my Race Ramps and the rear on a rolling floor jack at the differential with the rear tires off the ground. Wife was flitting about and as we were talking the car rolled down OFF the ramps via the floor jack and from the garage out into the driveway. Pretty as you please and didn't hit a thing (thank goodness). I had forgotten to chock the rear of the front wheels on the ramps.

Wifey just looked at me and walked in the house shaking her head...

we all have "oh s**t" moments. Here's mine: I have my '53 Austin Healey on the lift in the garage with the bonnet raised. I working under the car and need more room, roll out from underneath and start raising the lift. I hear crunch as the bonnet and garage ceiling make contact. Stupid, Stupid boy.

The blame is fully on Murphy and not your dog. The dog was only trying to protect his human from the damned squirrel !

I'm not going to tell you what I'd do, because someone on this forum would report me for animal cruelty.

Cool, I call that original Patina!

Gives the car some character and the Owner a story to tell!

Ugh. Puts a glove box door in perspective.

Yea my dog chewed the body molding on my 03 and chewed on my 66 rockers. Of course I doubled down on the problem and tried to buff the scratches out and learned what anodized coating is. Bought 1 nos rocker off of eBay and it had a slight bow in it so it wouldn't work. Finally after more than 6 months of searching I found nos rockers in the wrapper. Needless to say the dog no longer stays in the garage during the day.

Give the dog a bone.
Our golden retriever / collie mix has caught 9 squirrels, a raccoon, two possums, a rabbit, countless moles and I am sure a lot of things we don't know about in his 3/4 acre yard.

What's a little paint when you have a protector that also gives you love after you yell at him. Your wife will not do that. Nor will the wife or Vette wag their tail at you after you have ignored them.

Man's best friend loves to ride in our C2.

Smile and pay the price of love.

We all have moments like that. Like the time I reached in to start the car I'd just tuned up. It started right up. Too bad it was in gear, leaped forward and took out the rear garage wall and the water heater for the upstairs apartment. :-(

My best faux-pas was being too eager to test drive my 66 after putting in a new motor. I forgot that I didn't bolt down the hood the day before and I think it was at about 35mph that I watched that hood catch some air and fly off the car, catching a glimpse of it doing a cartwheel down behind me in the rear view mirror! Amazing it didn't trash the thing, just a few corner bodywork fixes. Lucky the car was in primer at the time as well.
Your pales in comparison. And BOY did I feel stupid.

I was backing up my '74 Alfa Romeo Spyder with the driver's door open and didn't notice the tree next to me

Really? I assume you would be blaming the dog? The dog only did what is natural for a dog to do. To tie the leash off to the glove box seems a mistake.
