Default Chicagoland Repair Shop.

My 1960 Corvette and I recently relocated to La Grange, IL, a western suburb of Chicago. I need a little bodywork done and a transmission leak fixed. Anybody have a good recommend for a repair shop in this area?

For the best and most honest Corvette repair, look into Bob Zimmerman at Classic motors in Naperville. It doesn't get any better.

There's one in Downers Grove that I definitely would NOT go to.

I know of two in the Chicago area that I would recommend:

D&M Corvette in Downers Grove and Mickey's Car Barn in Crown Point, Indiana (just outside the Chicago Illinois border on the SE side).

Tripower automotive does incredible work. I send my cars from Texas up to them.

I have heard all positive things about Bob Zimmerman at Classic Motors, though I have never used them personally. I believe this is a very good recommendation.

I do everything except body/paint myself. For those needs, I highly recommend Royal Coach in Bartlett. Talk to John the owner.

AVOID the shop in Downers Grove as others said. Search the Great Lakes section for experiences there posted by others.

Bob is a good guy! Another one to talk to about it is Rich Verb. Check with the local Chicago corvette clubs to get a hold of Rich. He will get you with a good shop.

Not sure if Bob would want to take on any C1 bodywork. Mostly, he works on C2/C3s. He is a very good mechanic though tough to get time from. At least, that was my experience. Very cool guy though.

Also Bob Sinlar at Corvette Mikes.

I whole heartedly agree. Bob "Stretch" Zimmerman is THE place to go.

I agree with the comment about the place in Downers Grove, and will add to avoid the place in Burr Ridge as well.
