2020 C1 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Default Engine ID

I located an engine for my 1960 Corvette. The car was built 11/17/1959 so I would need an engine cast sometime in September or October 1959. The engine I found appears to have been cast 09/29/1959.
Can someone please confirm these are good block numbers for the build date of my car?
Thanks, Bud

This is interesting:

Your car may or may not need to have a VIN derivative on the stamp pad. I think not.

The engine was assembled on October 1, so it would work for your car but the D in the suffix would be for a car with an automatic transmission. This was probably an over the counter block since the hp is not in the suffix. Your vin will depend on if IT needs to be stamped also.

Default Pad stamp

My VIN is 00867S101332 so it's an early '60 model year assembly. I don't believe the entire VIN was stamped on until much later in the production run.

FI00ID
translates to
F = Flint
I) = 10th month (October)
0I = 1st day of the month
D = 1960 (in this case) 283, 170hp, 2bbl, powerglide in a passenger car.

If you car is a powerglide car, this one is easy, jjst add a letter to the end.

DG = 230 hp, 4bbl, PG in a Corvette
DJ = 245 hp 2x4bbl, PG is a Corvette

Looks like a decent match for your car except for the engine stamp.
