Default Help confirming engine id

All - Need some help confirming the pedigree of a 327 block I may buy. Owner states it is a 1964 Corvette block. Here are the numbers:

Casting #: 3782870
Date Code: B224
Journal Crank: 7178
Engine Suffix Code: F0228S

Everything seem to correlate to a Feb 22, 1964, 327 Corvette Block, Pistons, crank, 2 bolt. What is throwing me is the "S" at the end of the engine suffix code. It does not correlate to any of the 64 corvette engine configurations. Any idea? Could this just be a replacement engine manufactured in 1964? Also from the pic there is not a partial VIN in front of the engine suffix code.

Thanks in advance for the help - Tim

There should be between 7 and 8 characters to decode your engine...

:::EDIT:::

"The engine suffix code is a two or three digit identifier used during assembly to indicate an engines usage and horsepower rating"

The 'S' suffix was used to denote a 327 250hp 4B PG used in a passenger car. Not in a Corvette.

I found this after my other post...

It it was "S" 1962 327 Powerglide full size

:::EDIT:::

If it was "SS" 1964 327 Pwrglide, hi perf. 300 4bbl Chevelle

It it was "SR" 1964 327 Powerglide 250 Chevelle/3200

Thanks for the feedback. It is just the one "S" in the suffix... no second letter, which as you found aligns to a 1962 327 but the casting dates code indicates a 1964. The mystery continues... although I think it is clear that what ever car this block came out of it was not a 1964 Corvette.

Date Code: B224
Engine Suffix Code: F0228S

translates as follows:

Block was cast on February 22, 1964 (B224)

F = Flint engine
0228 = assembly date of February 28th
S = 327, 250hp, 4bbl, powerglide, installed in a passenger car (Impala, etc.) This code was used from 1962-1964 for this engine application.

This was before VIN derivatives were used on lower horsepower engines in non-Corvette applications. By 1968, all engines had VIN derivatives, regardless of horsepower or application.
