What does this work out to is "J285"on an L79

Well if it is a manifold or cylinder block it is October 28, 1965

Not sure if "I" was used on block date codes. Whatever "J" works out to be, it would be the 28th day of the month of 1965

Remember it this way: The word "stamp" has an "M" in it. "CAST" has no "M".
