Split window for 65-67 roadster
At my barber today. He told me about one of those rebuild car show on TV that made a removable top for a roadster that had a split window in it????
Anyone see that. Would be interesting!

Judging by this video, it looks like it was a one-off top made for a customer. I know when I called them a few years ago about the top, they said they were not producing them, but I thought they might eventually.

A friend called them last month while I was in the room. The top is not ready for production at this time.

I saw one on a car at Carlisle a couple years ago. I was not impressed. I can not believe that they would cut the top off an original SWC to make a top for a roadster. Someone has a lot of $$$$$$$$$$ to **** away.

The first issue I see is it will do like all hardtops, put a ridge in your paint. But instead of the one everyone is used to in the decklid, and most accept, this will go out across the rear deck and make a huge scar.
Plus it will be heavier than a regular hardtop.
This isn't new. There was a similar hardtop in the '60s, although not common for the same reasons. One can be seen in the mini series Aspen (1977). There is a '67 (IIRC) "coupe" that looks odd until you realize it has convertible doors and windows and is a hardtop bolted on to look like a couple.

I don't believe they cut up a '63 for this. I think they made a mold to make the top.

I took a shop tour at Fantom Works a few months ago. They had several split window units hanging from the wall. They weren't finished units but chould be with additional work. Might be worth making a second call.

It is a novelty thing, but don't get caught in the rain. The convertible windows are not rolling up into the coupe top.
I guess on Overhaulin', something practical like having windows that close doesn't really matter.

They actually had some for sale in the 70s, I believe they were just a generic "coupe" style like 64-67. When I bought my '65 roadster in '77, convertibles were the low man on the scale and coupes actually were more valuable.
This thing from Fantomworks made for a good program (and a huge dispute from the car's owner- there was a thread here on it) and I think there was another episode that used one too.
But my problem is, I can't see how someone could avoid looking like a poser, trying to make a car look like something it's not.

I visited Fantomworks last year with my brothers who live a few miles away in Norfolk, Dan said they still hadn't solidified a source for the rear window molding for the SWC faux top. They make the tops out of an in-house mold which was shown in an episode. I don't know how many they have hanging on the walls but a direct phone call to them got the response that they were not 'ready for primetime' and they were still working fitment issues on the first top they made. That was as of about 5 weeks ago...
Even though there might be a small market for these tops, it appears they have been relegated to 'gimmick status' and are receiving minimal attention at this point. Fantomworks is turning major big money work away in droves and operates at 'full bandwidth', so these tops had their 'day in the sun' and may never be fully piloted for production..
As for faking the split window -- there are strips you can put down c6/c7 rear windows for the effect, the actual fiberglass split is now sold in repro and then there is cobbled-together version you can buy already built. (I'm having a flashback to all those nasty-looking body kits for the Volkswagon bug).

Ugh! that thing is just plain fugly. I have no desire to make my '67 convertible look like a coupe, let alone a SWC. If I wanted a coupe I'd buy one.
Has everybody forgotten about the removable hard top for a convertible? I prefer that on mine to this bastardization.......

I could be wrong but GM stopped it after one year because it was hard to see out of. Never sat in one so I don't know if that is true. unless it is the real deal why would you want to do that.
