Default Electric Power Steering

Has anyone converted their 62 to electric assisted power steering? If so, what is your experience and would you recommend the conversion? Thanks

Its expensive and I think you have to cut your steering column a bit:

If you look like the driver in this video I will come over and install it for you.

The instructions I read said you have to REPLACE the steering column and the parts kit costs over $3,000.

I would have no other power steering. I have DIY experience. I used the electric power steering assist out of a 2003-07 Saturn Vue from the local junk yard for $110. Make sure you get all parts. will need to cut shafts to proper length and get correct adapters. Ordered a special control box thru ebay for $60 (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Saturn-Vue-Io...AAAOSw4GVYJv77) that controls the amount of steering assist. Installed unit under the hood. Made a special mounting bracket. I also installed a Martz bolt in rack and pinion front non power steering suspension. Installed an Ididit steering column. Various u-joints and brackets to hook up from ps assist to rack and pinion. The power hook up is 2 wires from the battery and plug in harness from control box. Just turn on the ignition and instant one finger power steering. The 62 drives like a new car. I will add pictures soon.

IIRC - there is another vendor whose unit works on a cut original steering column, but yes it wasn't a lot cheaper...

Pretty expensive upgrade...
