Shifter won't go into gear unless trans is jacked up
I recently changed to a m21 Muncie on a 1966 corvette. New linkage and shifter installed and is adjusted, goes into gear fine when the trans is jacked up but as soon as you take the jack off of the trans it will no longer go into any gear but first. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Have you adjusted the linkage with the transmission off the jack and sitting on the cross member with the rubber mount? The service manual has the size of the alignment tool for the Muncie shifter as well as the procedure to follow. If you have a Hurst, the procedure is the same but the alignment tool is different. Very probable. What shifter did you put in it? You may need a new transmission mount or shim under it.

Just checked the clearance it does not hit the frame or mount but it started and strangely enough right after I posted it started to work but is a tad hard to get out of reverse so I will try adjusting it some more I'll let you guys know if it works or not. Thanks for the fast responses

Did you also replace the transmission mount? The repo parts are a bit smaller / shorter than the factory parts.
