Default What if there was a quality 63 SWC Aftermarket Body Available?

With the demand and associated pricing of the seemingly rare 63 SWC coupled with people who want to build Restomods out of them, would there be a demand for a good quality aftermarket body?

I would assume a good quality set of reproduction window trim would also need to be available?

I am just curious........

Comments?

Cobras been there done that.

Originals significantly out price 'tributes'.

Only unknown is more original 63 coupes than original cobras

Don't think there is any doubt it would sell. Complete bodies for first Generation Camaros are available in both hardtop and convertible models. The hard part might be to find the VIN and TRIM tags, but even those are reproduced. Re-stamping drive train components is not uncommon from reading on all forums.

It is a given that many are passed off as originals.

If you have the money, anything can be bought.

Much like the Camaros and Belair bodies available today, my thought was a body to use as a replacement for an original that is too badly damaged OR to start a fresh new build for a Restomod. The latter would require a state issued VIN.

You are probably right but I would like to think that would be in the minority.

Bodies are easy to make. It's all the trim and small stuff that will eat you up

IIRC there are 53 reproduction bodies and maybe a few other C1 years. As stated, its a large commitment as the body is only part of the equation; the one-year-only trim and other goodies can sink you.

Everybody talks about the stainless trim around the outside of the rear windows...price out the INTERIOR painted trim around those same windows.... It'll make a grown man cry. And I've seen restomods that have forgone the trim for 'blacked out' look but it ruins the car IMO and looks too modern...

With original '63s with non F/I motors bringing $125K-$144K (more than one example at Mecum this month) and that is a trend; I'll have to seriously think about selling mine. I'm not so sure I wouldn't be just as happy with a '65 and bank the difference in prices...

State issued VIN in CA would require it to be "SMOGGED", as it would be considered a "NEW CAR 20??"not a 63....

Corvette Central advertises their Concept 57 complete body. I know of a company that makes 54-56 and 59-61 (never finished the 62) but in conversations with this 80 year old gentlemen, he has not pushed the line and really is not selling many these days.

With the amount of C2's out there, the math is always clear to buy the best original car you can afford and build/restore from that point.

I started the thread regarding the 63 SWC because the prices are going up and up and with good examples getting hard to come by, there could be a demand for someone to make these items.

I work in the engineering world of gas turbines and have access/resources to white light scan (digitize) these parts. Perhaps I should reverse engineer the inner and outer trim.

Looks like there is a new player already offering these bodies........

Hmm.
