Stamped Vin Matching Number Location
All,
I have in my possession a 3 speed transmission. It is supposedly from a Corvette. I believe it is a Saginaw.....
I cannot find the Matching Stamped number anywhere. Here is what I have.
I would like to have this Tranny looked over and repaired if it is correct for my 61. It was given to me by the seller.
Any help would be appreciated.
Best,
dcamick

Pretty sure they didn't start stamping the VIN on the tranny until 62.

Saginaw 3-speeds didn't have rhe vin stamped on them. To be a Corvette tranny, they need a long tailshaft housing with the 3 mounting bosses with holes for the shifter mount.

You would be much happier with a 4 - speed if you are going to the trouble of swapping transmissions. Those old 3-speeds do not have a synchronized 1 st gear, so you have to come to a complete stop to put it back in 1 st gear. Even if it is correct for your car, the value of a non original 4 speed probably out weighs an original 3 speed.
What tranny is in your car now?

My 59 had a Saginaw when I bought it and it was the first to go. Had a difficult time on the swap but worth it. So much more fun!

Thanks all!
3 speed is out of the 61... T10 4 speed with a Hurst shifter is currently installed. I feel compelled to have the 3 speed looked over and put into my stocked parts for this car. If I never get rid of this gem...I want to know the 3 speed is in working order.....
Thanks again, all!
