Oil Canister Bolt Crush Washer
Can anyone tell me where to find a copper washer for the mounting bolt on an oil canister for a 60 283 car? I'd like to have one on hand when I remove the old one, which has a slow drip of oil every day or so. The bolt is tight, but I can see oil forming around the washer. I'm not sure if the size is the same as the drain plug, but I'm hoping someone can tell me they found one at a local parts store. Looking on line, NAPA, O'Reillys, Advance, and AutoZone don't list a specific washer for that application.
I know all about the conversion kit and how much easier it will make it in the future. I have decided not to do that, but keep the original design.
Any experience in this area that will help me find one? Thanks,,

The junk store, Harbor Freight has an assortment of copper washers for less than the price of one at GM. Also, a plastic washer can do the same job if you are not showing the car for points.
Just suggestions, no promises.

Long Island Corvette sells a re-build kit that includes various seals and the copper washer.

Napa had the 1245 washers, I bought one for 69 cents to try. Looks about the right size, it's listed as a brake caliper crush washer. Thanks.

Before I drained it and pulled out the bolt, I held the canister and turned the bolt 3 or 4 times back and forth about an eighth turn and back to where I started. It hasn't leaked a drop in three days, but I have the washer now if needed. Thanks,

I had this same situation a few years ago with my '67 SB repro. canister filter assembly. For a long time I just tightened the bolt using my 3/8" drive ratchet to what I thought was pretty firm, and occasionally had oil leaks as you describe. I thought that it might be poor repro. quality, but decided to check the GM recommended torque spec. and found it to be about 21 lb.-ft., which was way higher than I was using. After tightening to 20 lb.-ft. for the past few years leaks have gone away.
