Default What are headlight motors worth?

Working order, rebuilt within last five years. Thinking of switching to modern electric (Detroit Speed or ?) set up.

I'm hoping the sale of the original motors will offset the cost of the upgrade kit.

Not worried about value of the car. 64 Restomod. Really freaking nice restomod but not a collector car.

Looks like repro units are going for $370 each. http://www.corvettestoreonline.com/C...FQe5wAod3OMLCQ

Used $300-$500 eBay

$220 to have yours rebuilt (Ecklers)

Looks like the Detroit Speed set up is $550

Is there another mfg for those kits that might be less expensive?

The rebuilders pay about $125 for rebuildable cores, and most people don't pay much more than $125-$200 for used motors. Rebuilt originals go for $300-$500 each. Motors dated between 63 and 67, will usually pull more than later GM service replacement motors, dated after 67.

I think there are a couple different electric conversions available for 68 up Corvettes, but the only 63-67 system I'm aware of is the one by Detroit Speed.

$220 seems a little strong for a motor rebuild, unless it includes parts. Most of the rebuilders charge about $150, plus parts.

Here's a pair which needed rebuild, offered on this forum at $325 and sold in about 8 hours.

Not bad. Mine don't need rebuilding but I would imagine people would rebuild them anyway. I had them done about five years ago. Worked fine when I removed them.

I just hate the damn things. Hate reassembling the headlight assembly. Hate how they work. Hate that stupid switch that just turns a damn light on. Hate the speed. Hate the little wheel. Hate the cross eyed look on occasion. Hate the sound (people look and say "WTF." )

I hate that little clip that I lost. And the ground wire to the mount (hate it).

Note: I've been watching a lot of CNN.

No, and the DS kit was invented by a forum member and licensed to Detroit Speed, simply the most innovative, well-thought-out, and, easy-to-install product of its kind on the market.

I've installed three sets and my own set twice (removed it once for judging then reinstalled it). I've got it down to about 1-1/2 hours now...

Did you remove the extra circuit to Battery for the headlights relay install a lot of work to get certified

Uh. Working through your sentence construction. If you are asking if having previously installed headlight relays for the lamps affects the DS conversion - they don't...

Not sure what 'certification' you refer to...nothing of that kind in Florida..

I installed the Detroit Speed kit on mine, pricey but worth it. I sold the original headlight motors (they worked but were slow) for $100 each in the Classified section.
