Default whats it worth, modded 61 sitting for 12 years

This car was taken off the frame and painted:
front frame rails, modified to accept side engine mounts, and air bag suspension, with tubular control arms, compressor is in the trunk, air shocks on the rear

aftermarket A/C from classic auto air. center of dash modified to accept controls and a later model radio

aftermarket wiring harness install was started

tremec 5 speed

crate engine ZZ4 i was told

aluminium radiator

power rack and pinion steering with no pump, hoses or reservoir

could not find the windshield frame, owner thinks he has it

none of the gauges are there, but the housing is

all the fiberglass stuff looks to be there: door, trunk lid. hood etc

Asked the owner to organize all of what he knew was there, and I would come back.

WHAT'S IT WORTH? SORRY THE PIC IS UPSIDE DOWN

Important parts are missing. I know that because I've worked on basket cases before. You never get all the parts.

Let's back into this. A really bad (#4) running '61 might be with $25,000. Might.

You have the wrong motor and the wrong transmission. Take $10,000 off for that.

I'm guessing that $10,000 worth of parts will need to be purchased.Wis

He'll never sell it for $5,000 and I wouldn't pay any more than $10,000.

That's my SWAG - Sophisticated Wise *** Guess.

NOT as a car to restore, but I would guess easy 20 to 25k depending on how many parts are there. Be a great Hot Rod Vette.

So a bad condition but running '61 with NOM and NOT is only worth $15,000?

Man.....that's a tough one.

Obviously, you need to be sure all the parts are there.

Is it a two top car, or does it come with any top at all?

Are the seats there? What about the interior items such as the glove box (and trim), and the storage tray up front? How about the dash pad?

Any item, and I mean any item is going to cost significant money to replace.

How is the paint on the car? How about the frame at the rear kick-ups?

Unfortunately, you really have no way of knowing how the fit and finish of the doors, hood, etc.... That alone could be a difficult situation.

Do you know anything about the body prior to the paint process?

There's so many variables it's almost like taking a big gamble.

No gauges is somewhat concerning, but it all depends on what you plan to do to the car.

No matter what exactly that is......consider that it's going to cost a lot of money to finish it out.

I just recently finished a complete restoration on our '62. I can tell you that it will most always cost you more than you expected! LOL! But it's still fun!

Again....depending on what it comes with, I would say anywhere from 20K-35K.

Has he given you an asking price yet?

Good luck,

Pat

A frame off with fresh paint ! New engine and tranny. Tubular A-arms ?? might be a custom front suspension. It's worth some bucks. I would revise my estimate higher.
Love the color !

I would say 25k minimum, and go from there. It's worth at least that as a core for a restomod builder, and one of the most desirable body styles/years for this purpose. I have seen cars in much worse shape, but more complete, sell for 25-30k in this model year.

You really need to inventory everything and see what is missing.

Including interior pieces and trim, exterior bumpers and trim, windshield pieces, top, Door window hardware and molding, everything.

THAT will determine how much you are going to have to spend on parts to make it a complete car.

Before i bought my '61 in 1974, I took all the loose parts out of the interior and trunk (the car had been disassembled for paint and some body repair) and laid them around the car where they would go, so i knew what i would have to buy, which wasn't much, a couple side molding pieces and of course a motor and trans, but used motors and transmissions were cheap, as long as i wasn't looking for correctness, which i wasn't.

Make list of what is missing, and price that stuff out.

If all your parts are there, you won't have to invest much at all, as long as you do your own assembly. If the paint is complete and still good, and you like the color, that is worth something.

Doug
