Default 1956 trunk paint

I'm restoring a 56 with red interior. I know the inside of the trunk should be red as well, but I need to know the shade or paint code for the trunk. Thanks
Ernie

It's Venetian Red but paint numbers will differ between manufacturers. Ditzler is 70694, DuPont 59388. I'm sure there are others.

Trunk paint is unbuffed lacquer. There is no special code. It is the same as the interior.

If you try to use a modern paint, like urethane, it will be to glossy. Some will say to flatten it chemically, but it won't look like unbuffed lacquer. PPG still sells/manufactures acrylic lacquer.

Mike, if you spray urethan "dry" (mist it by holding the gun way back and let the paint mist the surface versus laying paint down in strokes) will it still come up glossy? Misting trunks with acrylic lacquer appears very authentic as long as you don't spray all of the areas, as example back towards the tail light wells. I have not had the opportunity to spray urethane.
