Stock Radio and a six speed resto mod
I have a 63 resto mod with a six speed what are the chances the stock radio will still fit? I know it was snug before I raised the tunnel not sure now.
Thanks

I don't know anybody that can answer that not knowing how much you raised the tunnel. It might or it might not. If the radio case hits the tunnel at the back of the case you could consider an AAR (Antique Automobile Radio) reproduction; pricey but only about 2 inches deep....

Are these any different than the retro radios other companies make? If so why?
Thanks

There is only ONE company making these, AAR out of Florida - a small shop...they supply them to all the vendors... Sometimes they show up on eBay at a discount (that's where I bought my '63 repro).
They have a helluva market niche because they have the only decent looking C1/C2 aftermarket radio IMO.... And, as stated, quite compact...
You can get a smaller Custom Autosound or the like I guess - I just don't care for the looks.

Stock radio won't fit. Vintage air won't fit either, if you didn't leave the floor stock at the front right corner (about 8" back from the firewall, and 4" wide. The AAR radios are
very good. I've installed about 15 of them.

The AAR radio is a very nice piece. No digital crap. It looks just like a stock radio, with a short box on the back. The radio that you pictured is junk

Anything digital is junk, IMO. I hate it. Can't see it in sunlight, the LCD dies, and it takes an hour to change stations. Give me analog and dials any time!

This is the AAR C2 unit...an AM/FM for '63...you have to buy an aftermarket speaker for it the original won't work.
Eckler's 140W 6x9 dual voice coil speaker for about $60 is THE best choice

Those AAR radios are not cheap.
Though they do look better than the Custom Autosound unit I bought as an inexpensive fix to fill the hole.
How are AAR units as radios? Functionality, sound power output?

When you're the only game in town as far as an original-style radio you get to name your price....the cost is equivalent to having an original radio gutted and made solid state. I've done both...the latter option will pass judging - no deducts.
I believe the AAR is now using the Aurora circuit board (which is why the quality of the end product has gotten better) this board has Bluetooth and optional voice control and is about the size of a playing card. Sound quality is good and the speaker is the limiting factor; hence the 140W dual voice coil recommendation...
The newest board even has a 'warm-up'/'cool-down' cycle similar to vacuum tubes for the older cars:
