Default 64 Rear Differential

What is the correct finish on a differential?

IIRC, the differential pumpkin was left unfinished by the factory, just raw iron cast casing, like the tranny.

Some people like to paint their pumpkins with a clear finish to ward off rusting, and others have painted theirs a cast iron grey color.

Others may come along to correct me, but at least I'll give you a bump to maybe increase your airplay.

I agree with Easy Rhino although I think some 63s were painted black (probably poorly as a blackout). Not sure how long this practice lasted.

Yeah, I think in Nolands book it shows painting (crudely) the rear suspension, but no mention of later. Just dislike the red rusty look. Judging manual downs cast blast, so maybe clear works for a while. Thanks.
