Default fail to (un)lock passenger door

I can't lock/unlock the passenger door with the key (new lock & key sets). Before I take off the door panel to check: I assume this is not normal?

Does the key turn the lock? If it does, the rod from the lock to the latch may not be installed or missing. You should be able to see it down inside the door with a flashlight.

Not normal, it should work just like the driver's door lock. Will it lock and unlock with the **** on the panel? Also as Gerald asked, does the key rotate the lock?

I ended up taking out the lock, and disassembling the inner mechanics (by taking off the stainless key cover, be careful because springs can jump out).
The problem was immediately visible, one of the clips that retains a tiny spring was off it's locked position. It took me quite some time to get it back into it's position and keep it there: 'lock' punching the 1/16th wide clip in it's seat while a tiny spring is pushing on the other side is not obvious. But I got there and now everything is fine

I never lock the doors in my convertible..just asking for a $2000 top to get sliced open so a kid can steal a $10 worth of junk.

Brings up an interesting question: Will the insurance cover contents of an unlocked vehicle, convertible or not?
I'll have to ask ADAM.
