Paint and Body is So. California (San Diego or close)
I am looking at getting body and paint work on my '66. I am located in San Diego. Any recommendations on shops in the area? I am open to up to LA or the inland empire..... Thank you for any help!

I used Bowden's Autobody in Escondido. This was only for a small repair to the right front fender. On time and as quoted. I can't compare to other shops though, as I have not used any others.

Just an idea, you might want to call the guys at Mesa Auto Paint in Escondido (760-432-0797) for recommendations. They supply high quality paint to the local shops. I have found them to be very helpful.

Have you decided on the level of work you are expecting as well as the amount you are willing to spend? Personally, for what I was looking for, a show winning quality with a flawless finish, was very difficult to find without spending 50K. That said, a great paint job is in eyes of the beholder that is why I stated an objective (show) opinion on quality. It's important to understand what you want and to convey that to the shop.

I recommend J&D Corvette in Bellflower. Been around forever, do top quality work, and actually manufacture 'glass replacement panels themselves. Google is your friend.

This is a driver car and I would like to keep it that way. I do not show my car and have no interest in ever starting. Got two bids for $20k today. $20k! No glaring problems with my car. No obvious mess that needs fixed...just regular body and paint. Wow................

I have a friend who is the opposite of me, I crave perfection it's my car, he is "it's good enough". It all depends on what you want. I have a guy in Escondido that would paint it for 5K. Good guy painted a couple cars for me but would never satisfy the level I'm looking for in my 63 resto mod. Like I said earlier it's crucial to understand what you want and to communicate that to the painter.
