Trim Tag Question
Here is a picture of the trim tag on my '67. I know that the car started down the line on 11 Jan '67 and rolled off on either the 11th or the 12th.
The car was sold on 21 March 67.
It appears that the dealership stamped the tag at the time of sale with 3 67.
So, the question is: Was it common for dealerships to do this?

Common, not overly, but they were supposed to do it. I believe the reason was to indicate the delivery date, to confirm the warranty period.

Dealers were asked to do this, actually on the VIN plate, but most dealers apparently ignored the request. Here is a quote from JohnZ from 2010 in which he explained the history: "Chevrolet asked the dealers to stamp the retail delivery date on the VIN plate in 1964 (that's why they added the "DD" embossment after "Chevrolet" on it, for "Delivery Date"), but the stainless was hard to stamp, and occasionally it broke the spot welds holding the plate on; some dealers stamped the delivery date on the trim tag instead, but most dealers just ignored the request, and Chevrolet finally gave up."

Dealers were supposed to stamp the delivery date on the VIN tag, but that was tough to do.
So, like yours, you'll see it stamped on the trim tag.
That being said, few dealers bothered to do it in either location.
Here's a VIN tag with DD on it...
Delivery date..

Thanks all! Boy, was that fast. Wondered what that DD stood for on the ViN plate.
Hope this next question doesn't get lost.
I read that there is a body tag with the body number on it. It is supposed to be on the engine side of the firewall. Could anybody give a more specific location for a 1967?
Passenger side, Driver's side, Center, High , Low?

The trim tag that you posted has all the information on it.
St. Louis Body 4610
972 AA = Ermine White exterior
455 BE = White/Black vinyl
We won't get into the ECL's, the "BE" in your case for now.

Also different body number sequence for AOS built convertible and AOS built coupe bodies. It is possible for a body number to be the same for all four bodies, but other stampings on the Trim Tag help to sort this out. AOS body numbers begin with an A versus an S for St Louis.
Then again maybe I am just confusing him more.
Larry
The 455 BE just means you have White/Black Vinyl interior in a convertible that DOES NOT HAVE Power Windows, Headrests, or an auxiliary hardtop.

Just doesn't list the "BE" ECL for the 455 trim

I bought the car in 1976 and was the 3rd or 4th owner that I know of. I always assumed that the car and hardtop got separated during the first 9 years.

Yeah, I can understand that. Did some snooping around and found the ECL decoder:

I don't have that book. Maybe someone does.
The ECL codes designate changes in the interior within that certain interior color or color combination.
For example: If you have power windows, you get door panels without crank holes. Powerglides get a different console than manual transmissions. If you have factory AC, your dash center has a vent. 67 seats could have headrests or not... and on and on.

Just so the OP doesn't get too confused, the S4610 BODY NUMBER stamped on his Trim Tag is the number for a St Louis built convertible body. A St Louis coupe body also has it own set of numbers......so there could be another S4610 body out there, but it would be for a coupe.
Also different body number sequence for AOS built convertible and AOS built coupe bodies. It is possible for a body number to be the same for all four bodies, but other stampings on the Trim Tag help to sort this out. AOS body numbers begin with an A versus an S for St Louis.

Learned about the St Louis and AO Smith bodies but did not know that there could be four bodies with the same body number. Wonder if the three others are still out there, if they ever existed at all.

Keep trying. You'll find it. NCRS has a book that might have your information.

I just quoted the book in my earlier/previous post. (Post 8)
