ONE MORE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHY I DISAGREE WITH THE USAGE OF
C- CATEGORIES!!!! NO OTHER GROUP OF CARS DOES THIS EXCEPT CORVETTE PEOPLE!!!!
There were different shades of red from 54 to 62.
STATE THE YEAR MODEL OF CONCERN, NOT C1, C2, C3, etc!!!!!!!!!

Wife doesn't like victory red or torch red, looking or an EARLY red that I know she liked.
I said kinda red, sorta red, red red, and she said I need to wear Garanimals.
Thanks, I'll start looking from that list.

if you aren't going with the stock red, why not take the little woman down to the paint store and have her look at literally a hundred different shades. You'll find something that suits her I'm sure. I settled on PPG Hot Red. It is a lot like Viper red.

They never tell you what they want but don't get it wrong near Valentines Day. (Why is love associated with Valentines Day when men were massacred in Chicago???). Don't answer that question.

Don't let the little lady chose the color.
Once I had a couple come in and wanted their motor home painted the color of her Hoover vacuum! Her favorite color.
I explained that the Maroon/Purple was too strong for a large motor home and convinced them to paint the lower 1/3 silver.
At first they liked it and a week later they wanted me to refinish the purple with a less noticeable color. (At my expence, of course!)

Before you decide on a original type red color you need to understand this:
If you choose the 1957 Venetian Red (or any other color) the paint designation's of 2415-H DuPont, 56V52R R-M, and DAL70694 Ditzler are all totally obsolete. The color can be formulated but without a very experienced paint mixer and painter it might look nothing like you expected. My 57 Corvette which I had painted Venetian Red was sprayed using a Ford Fleet Color. Excellent color based on NCRS inspection.
The suggestion of going to a paint store is a good one but if your wife has trouble making decisions, she will never decide on a color, there are way to many variations and colors.
I went to my friends body shop and looked at his Sikkens "Color Map" books. Thousands of colors, shades and variations but it does work if you are patient.
The other approach is to look at current factory colors. I have painted 2 Corvettes (a 62 and a 57) Chrysler "Inferno Red" which is a subtle base/clear that has a candy red appearance.
Good Luck.

Personally, I like the designation as it separates the C1 from C2s. But I feel that if you have a specific question about a C1, then you also need to provide the year.

He asked for the breakdown of the different color reds for all C1s, so what's the problem? Geez, lighten up

Looking at a color chip on a card is not the same as seeing it on a car or on a house. When I was in the retail hardware business, I had so many situations where a customer would choose a bright paint color only to come back and want it lightened up. When it comes to painting a Corvette a non standard color, it is wise to carefully consider how bright or strong it will look on the car.
Regarding the Venetian Red used on 56-57 Corvettes, I felt it leaned toward orange. That was by design, I'm sure.
