Default What's worth more Coupe or Vert? Trade?

Just thinking right now. I have a bullet proof documented 65 wht/ red vert with 89,000 miles with one repaint so not a true survivor, everything else is original. Did replace brake lines, rebuilt trailing arms, front end
Might be interested in a trade for a similar coupe. Documents include original bill of sale, protecto plate, owners manual, dealership letters and yearly inspection reports documenting milage from the state of Indiana.
Opinions welcome.

Hagerty values the converts at about a 10-15% premium. But GM made about 2 converts to each coupe from '63-7, plus coupes cost more new. its one on those things where the best answers is "it depends" on who's buying. IMO, the Verts are more popular. People like to see and be seen and the Vert fills the bill. "When the top goes down, the price goes up," you hear the Auctioneers chant. Of course the '63 coupe is the exception. I had a '65 coupe, my 2nd Corvette in the early '80s, loved the style, but with the big rear window, whenever I parked it outside in the Summer, the black interior got so hot, it was not much fun. Been a Convertible guy ever since.

The difference is so minuscule in value it can be argued either way- the simple fact is two of these cars, while mass produced, are rarely "absolutely" alike in condition unless they scored highly say in Flight judging on the same day.

The motivations of each person in a trade will determine the spread. In any event I think a trade at this level is hard to find and complete. Better (easier) to sell your pretty convertible for a coupe you like.

FWIW midyear convertibles are elegant and iconic, but I find quality coupes to be harder to come by- probably because as stated there were less to begin with and they were used more often as Zora intended.

the only time when a coupe will sell more if all things are equal is for a 63 for some dumb reason I will never understand. all other times when all things are equal a convertible will sell for more. as they say when the top goes down the price goes up

RJD42 I live about 20 min. from where your car was sold from in Martinsville In. I live in Greenwood, In just north of Martinsville. It would be cool to have a Vette that was sold close to home but I am a Coupe guy but you do have a good looking car and it has great docs. Good luck with it.

It took me three years to find my midyear and I never once considered buying a convertible. For me, the iconic look is the coupe. For me, all things being equal, I will take the coupe

Here in Ohio I would rather sit in the shade in my hot 65 Coupe then in the sun in a 65 convertible..
In C1 cars I only own cars with a hardtop.

Great answers, and my conclusion is it's a tie. Both versions have their advantages. I used to favor roadsters over coupes, but now I have no favorite. Midyear coupes look stunning. Like Ohio, I re-installed the hardtop on my '61 a year ago and never took it back off....I like it a lot with the top on. The factors that matter in a trade are options, condition, and originality. Are both cars enough alike to be in the same class? If so, an even-steven trade would probably be about right.

Coupe? Convertible? You have to have one of each.

I grew up in Martinsville, and clearly remember Dick Devoe Chevrolet. The dealership building is still there, franchise went through a number of owners since Devoe. Now it is just an auto repair facility, Chevrolet dealer is a new building out on the highway. It would be very cool to own a car with documentation from my hometown, but don't have a spot for another car.

Both of mine are 1966 vintage.

People ask why I have 2. Some days are convertible weather and some days are coupe weather. Simple. I like them both equally.

1963 coupes bring a premium because it was the only split window of the 5 year C2 production run. There were about 10,000 '63 coupes built and about 35,000 '64-67s made. People pay a premium to have something different.
