Default Multiple events= tire poor!

You know...when I decided to try some different stuff with the Vette...not sure I thought it out real well. I've always run around on the street with some basic BFG street radials and some tire store specials on the front. I've blasted past 150 MPH quite a few times on that stuff.

For the dragstrip...I've got a set of M/T wheels with some 10.5x28" slicks and some M/T front runners on some Bogarts for the front.

Then I got the wild idea to run that half mile runway deal. So I got some M/T drag radials and scrounged up some V-rated front tires. All was good....managed 177 MPH.

Then I got the idea that if a little is good...more is better right? What could I do in the TX Mile? Well...that brings another issue. They don't allow drag radials and to sneak up on 200 MPH you need "Y" rated (186 MPH+ tires). Finding stuff in 15" diameters for those speeds isn't too easy...but I finally found some roundy-rounder tires approved for those speeds. When they arrived...I found the fronts were a little too wide and weren't going to clear suspension and fender properly. Bummer.

So then I finally located some Pirelli Y rated tires for the front. Short little devils but they should help keep the nose out of the air.

This weekend is preparing it for the drag strip next weekend.....then if all goes well I'll switch everything around for top end playing.

Probably should have planned this a little better!

Wow - quite a tire collection you have started there. Have you got the hardtop installation figured out yet?

Very impressive numbers. What are you doing to hold the front end down at 177 other than shorter tires?

My back hurts just looking at that collection of wheels and tires.
On the other hand you need that collection of purpose built tires to stay safe out there.
Always safety 1st especially at those speeds.

The struggle continues. That tire portfolio is impressive.

The era of specialty impacts every aspect of our modern life.

I am in a similar quest, on the hunt for a set of rear tires and rims for dyno testing (of all things).

My car sits too low with the current 24.5" tall 225/60/15 tires to load the rollers and not have the stock under car exhaust hit the center cover plate of the dyno with room for chain. When I had the 215/70/15's it was not a problem. Now I am searching for a similar tall tire that is H or V rated.

I know you have dyno tested your car. Do you use T-hooks at the factory cross member tie-down slots, with chain (what I have used in the past), or did you find a good alternate anchor locations with better under car clearance?

Now you have a garage full of options! So much fun in so little time! Good Luck.

We just wrap around the spring and or the shock mounts with straps.

Works good until one broke at 1000+ RWHP. We moved up to four of them. That got exciting!

That is excitement nobody needs.

Thank you for the photo. We chose caution over expedience. We thought about straps at the spring near the ends and shock mounts at the hubs, to avoid the exhaust and tire carrier, but decided to ask for advice.

Removing the tire carrier may be good for anchor point options too.

When it happened...I was "driving". The dyno guy was in the right seat. He was working the dyno switches and manning the laptop so we could make quick changes without wasting time.

The car jumped sideways. You can't hit the brakes because the rollers are still driving the wheels. Could easily get yourself thrown off that elevated platform...so just had to ride it out. Me and the other guy were "spooning" for a few seconds when I nearly ended up in his lap!! Luckily the other strap was still holding things somewhat in place.
