For the most part, everyone disagrees with my philosophy, but I let it be known that I'm a b@d@zz when it comes to my property and family, and I plan to keep the same approach regarding thieves and vandals. A couple of times I've heard through the neighborhood grapevine "watch out for the guy that lives on the corner, he'll shoot you". Maybe a good reputation to have and maybe a bad one. But my next door neighbors and the ones across the street like me.
I think the term is deterrence.

My 65 cpe was stolen about 2-3 weeks after I moved to Las Vegas for a new job. A neighbor in called the police when then saw someone messing with it. A police car came in one end of the parking area as the car was going out the other. I talked to the cop and he said he figured there was no way he could catch that car. He said by the end of the day it would be in a chop shop somewhere. I called the Vegas police once a month for over a year asking for any update, no luck!!!!
There must be more to this story, as most any cop I know would have at least made an effort to catch the thief!

Tom, if my 60 is ever stolen I will call you first before the cops.

Decades ago I was awakened one night by a loud car that shut off its motor quickly and I heard the gravel crunching as he eased up to our house (no A/C back then so windows open). I knew instantly the clown was gonna steal the Keystone mags off my '67 RS Camaro. Dad was out of town so I grabbed his .45 1911 and walked out the front screen door with it behind my back just as the creeps (who had a 69 Camaro) popped their trunk lid to get their bumper jack out.
They dived in the car and took off and I did too. Two vintage Camaros racing down Military Highway in Virginia Beach at triple-digit speeds. I finally backed off at Indian River Rd.
I went to Princess Anne High School and found out the two guys went to First Colonial. Word got out they almost got shot messing with my stuff and I never had any more trouble again from ANYbody.

"Decades ago" you could have fired a round into the air or into the ground to show you meant business. Today that would get you arrested.

When the cop I talked to said he didn't try to pursue, or use his radio, I figured he might have something going on the side, remember this was Las Vegas.
My mistake was no theft insurance. I lived up on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. The car had a unique paint job and I knew all the local cops. Figured if someone up there tried to steal it I'd just call one of them and as there's only one quick road off the peninsula they'd set up a road block and catch them. My bad!

ptjsk on here had his C1 taken out from under the nose of witnesses and friends IIRC.
These thieves have cojones the size of beach *****. Pros would have such a car in an enclosed trailer either headed for an overseas shipping container or a chop shop within a few minutes of the theft IMO... They want the 'goods' off their hands and a quick payday.

And a fuelie too..that totally suck. With him heading to the Autorama show, a lot of people come into town for that and trailer their cars. Who knows, the manager at the hotel could be on the take and tips off these bastards about a nice car. I'm wondering if the guy who had the car stolen mentioned to the hotel clerk what was inside the trailer. You know how as a Vette owner you like to brag about your cars. Very sad day for that car owner.

that is CRAZY !!! Was that done because of the news broadcast and they knew people were looking for them? Why would someone go to all the trouble to steal the trailer and get away with it only to burn that beautiful car? Hopefully this picture is only a joke as no news I've seen reported it found yet and judging by the color of those pictures they appear to be really old photos

If that picture is legitimate - what a shame to see a perfectly good Corvette burned to ashes. Insurance or not, this is crazy. The owner must be devastated.
I hope these @#$&*# get caught.

Had one of my Corvettes stolen. Police seemed to view it as a victimless crime because cars are insured. I found car in souther state where title washing was regularly done and police and insurance didn't care enough to pursue. Barrett Jackson sold the stolen car with the stolen information on registry. You are screwed. Protect your car as best you can and insure it to max.
My '63 coupe was stolen when I lived in SC. There were witnesses and the local grapevine was abuzz with clues as to where it went. I reported all of this to SLED (State Law Enforcement Div) and got back little more than a yawn.
I did get a piece of paper with the words "Pay to the Order Of", but it wasn't the same....

That really sucks; especially if the owner could have at least had the stripped body it would be worth $25K+ to a restomodder...
Interesting to see if a rash of original parts show up on auction sites, etc..
