Doesn't make any difference once he accepts any insurance money the insurance company owns the car and they will not take the owners, who it was stolen from, into consideration. Been there done that.

Yeah, thats where I would start looking. But really it does not matter since how do you prove that bumper came from that car... Ask Pat about his hardtop (not to bring up bad memories).

About eight months after I obtained my car back, less the hardtop, I continued my search on Craigslist.
Low and behold......there it was, in Salinas.
I actually called the guy and spoke with him for quite some time. I obtained information that all but confirmed it was definitely my hardtop. I had literally just finished restoring it, so I knew several details about the top. And....the guy confirmed my specific items about the top.
Of course his Uncle had just purchased a '61 and didn't want the hardtop. That was the reason for selling it.
Anyway, I contacted the P.D. three times. Finally, after getting nowhere, the last individual I spoke with (Woman dispatcher) stated; Well....it's not really your hardtop any more anyway.
I guess I probably stuttered in disbelief as she continued to say; Didn't you receive payment from the insurance company? It's actually now their top, as you accepted payment.
I couldn't frigging believe it!
I called my Brother who was working in another Bay Area Law Agency.
I told him I was going to go down and get my hardtop!
He told me if I did that, you know what's going to happen, and you're going to be the one that gets arrested.
Unfortunately, he's right, and I do realize that car theft must be pretty low on the scale of importance for P.D.
So in the end....I guess crime pays here in the State of California!
That is, unless you're a law abiding gun owner. Then the State is intent on making you into a criminal! But that's another issue!
Anyway...sad to see the jack azzes burned the car. I think that's worse than actually having it go over-seas. That's devastating!
I too hope the hell they catch the thieves, but unfortunately, they probably won't.

there is no consolation in saying this, but I don't think the entire car was burned as it was definitely cut in half; can't tell for sure if the rest is on the pile.. But the frame and power train is definitely gone...

Insurance is to make you 'whole' again, financially and that's about it....most classic car companies (none that I know of actually) do not cover "Diminished Value". So your car can be recovered/repaired etc and be worth less than an unmolested example but you better be able to collect from the other party. Another reason to put an "agreed upon" value as high as you can afford and that the insurance company will accept.

i agree. When I insured my C1 I went with Hagerty because they do agreed value with no complaint and the cost was cheap. They asked me what I wanted to insure the car for and I said $40k. The representative just said "yep that's in our value range" and it was done. If something happens I get my money but will still be saddened.

I play with single action Cowboy shooters too. Not my go-to for self-defense though...
Anyway, everybody reading this thread ought to review their classic car policy and make sure they are satisfied with the coverage they've selected. Carefully consider the agreed-upon value in place and the choice of uninsured motorist options.

As for the value, no I having increased the value. I just bought the car in October. It's only worth about $40k. It's a NOM car with a replaced frame.. Just a really nice driver. I will increase it after I get new interior.

Can you clarify? Unless my car is in pieces what... Like if it's stole and recovered in pieces I don't get paid.

His statement... I missed that was a comma and not a period. It was one thought. So you guys think 40 is too low for any C1? I will reconsider a fair value to insure at before the driving season. I only paid 35k in October so I thought 40k seemed good because I'd get my money back.

In Okla, if a person has a concealed carry permit (and I do), it is then legal to open carry. I don't do it on a regular basis, but you should see the looks when I go into Walmart with the .44 strapped on! I do it just for effect. I get along REAL GREAT with my neighbors and they know if there is trouble on our street, they can count on me for "protection". I'm kind of a joke on our street.
