Default Sound Deadener

Hi I am new to the forum even though I have owned my 66 Roadster for 37 yrs. My question is sound deadener, does anyone know which under carpet sound deadener works the best for bang for the buck.

Thanks
Gas

Welcome to the CF. I can't say what is the best bang for the buck, but any sound deadner that is workable, and fits without creating problems is something to keep in mind. Some guy use the foil backed type that has a very sticky backing and there are others. I have only used the jute that is available. Dennis

There is no such thing as sound deadener for a convertible. Especially one with side pipes.

Are you trying to make it quieter ... or cooler? If you're trying to insulate the floors to cut down on heat migration, there are several good products for that. Bill

As you know with the hardtop on and with side pipes it's pretty noisy so I'm looking for a combination sound and heat, I figure I might as well do something as I'm replacing the carpets.
I believe I found such a product that has a foil and pad combined, will let you know how it works out down the road.

Thanks

I prefer Dynamat Extreme specifically for sound deadening although I feel the aluminum backing helps with heat.
Put a piece in the doors and roof and it makes a big difference .

The shop I used to do my frame-off used Dynamat Extreme on a number of big block Camaros and Mustangs and customers were very happy with the results, so that's what I went with.

They also used RAPTOR bed liner on the interior and underside of most of their builds which helped a lot. It can be tinted to just about any color you want as well.

Good luck... GUSTO

GUSTO, did you put the standard jute padding on top of the Dynamat or just install the carpet over the Dynamat? Thanks, Rick

Rick, I haven't actually gotten to the point where i can install the carpet, so I haven't yet made that decision. The factory didn't use jute on the '63, they just glued the foam back carpet to the floor, so it's probably going to depend on how the carpet fits.

I have installed Dynaliner in the doors however and that really made a difference on the sound of the doors when closing them. I have a bunch, so I may use that on top of the Dynamat if I do anything.

GUSTO

Fatmat followed by DEI lite. Posting DEI link for reference only. You can find both on eBay for cheaper than most retailers have them listed for. Fatmat is virtually the same as dynamat, but cheaper.
