Default A Corvette claims another live

Sadly people buy these Corvettes and think they are your next NASCAR Championship driver. These things are not rockets so don't drive them like one. This guy did and now some young lady will never go home because he drove a Corvette like a rocket.

Based only on the two photos.........it looks like a seatbelt could have saved her life.

This obviously happended at ourageous speeds so the corvette isn't to be blamed, despite that being said I do think it is quite strange that the passenger seat didn't hold up during the crash and it is up to the dash.

Very sad story

Nothing to do with the Corvette and everything to do with natural selection...

I wont judge.
I shake my head now at some of the things I survived during my "formative" years.

I did so much stupid stuff in my Vette at age 20 it's a wonder I did not kill myself and/or someone else. You could put a tall stack of $100's on a table but I would not try some of those stunts again.

That said - if they repealed the seat belt law today, it would not make the slightest difference to me. I wear mine every time I get in, for the reason that I believe in it. Not foolproof but way better than no belt.

for the passenger in this case.

Good observation on the passenger seat. The passenger compartment held up pretty well, considering.

140mph on Japanese motorcycles on Virginia Beach city streets before any helmet law...yeah I wake up each morning surprised to see another sunrise...

Lost a few friends through street racing and motorcycle accidents....some their own fault, some not.

A lot of life's lessons learned between my age (17 at the time) and this guy (37) -- he apparently didn't attend the same classes...

We have a saying in NAVAIR, don't let the aircraft get in front of you. Same holds true for cars.

I was doing the same thing, but in the Bay Area. By the time I was 20-21, I had pretty much stopped all the nonsense. Losing my driver's license for an entire year for drag racing at age 19 (two weeks after totaling my car in another incident) was a huge wake up call. After rebuilding my car and my life, reality hit. Lost several friends to the street race/stupid stuff scene before they even hit 21.

Rescuers cut so much stuff out of their way to extricate the passengers / driver that its hard to determine what they did vs the crash damage.

Face it - most of us in our teens and 20s who grew up car crazy and had more car than frontal lobe way back then before air bag this, padded that, shoulder harness, etc, were collectively - young and stupid, once. We survived because of good reflexes or pure dumb luck or both. It's unfortunate but was and is a form of natural selection.

This thread needs a new title. Corvettes, just like guns, do not kill people. People kill people. Stupidity kills people. Combination of both in this unfortunate situation. And, yes, if you grew up in the '60s muscle car era you did a bunch of stupid chit, but we were kids...most of us by the time we were 37 had grown up and smartened up a bit (after one too many close calls with the grim reaper). God rest her soul

It certainly is sad, but I don't know why they would need to cut much of anything considering...

The article states "The two occupants were thrown from the car"

I also thank the good Lord daily, because I too did some very stupid things growing up. How I'm still here is some sort of miracle in my mind. I've been to that magic 140 mph on my '80 Japanese single seat rocket-ship (KZ-1000). Which by the way....I still have.

Plus I raced my brandy new '69 GTO literally every single day from when delivered, till the day I sold (I'm crying here) back in '76.

Now I'm just Loving Life each day,
RK
