Default The "Alternative" Wheels We Loved

Hey guys.

I was searching the net for various Vette related things and I saw a picture that caused me to go... hmmmm.... and then I saw FLYNAVY30's minilite thread, and I figured I'd expand on that a bit in a new thread.

Here is the premise.

I've read/heard that you Day One Vette heads liked and used various wheels "back in the day" (and By Day One, I mean you actually OWNED these cars in the 50s/60s).

Things come in and out of fashion, i understand. I have heard that you guys rolled with Baby Moons, Reversed Rims, Minilites etc etc...

But its very rare to find a vintage photo of these alternatives in use. Mostly, all the pictures show Stock Covers, Knock-offs, or a Torq Thrust variant.

If you rolled with some "alternative" and got pics, or just want to share your story, please chime in!

Here is the picture that got me thinking.... these were the baby moons.. right?
And... any insight as to the time frame that these came in and then out, of "style"?

PS
No hatin' please

I had stock hubcaps on both of my 65 coupes and I've tried to approximate dog dish caps on my 62.

the only non-stock wheels I've ever had were Cragars on my 64 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible and my super stock Dodge.

pictures were not as cheap and convenient back in 'Day One' as digital ones are now; there are SO MANY things that I wish I had pictures of.....

Two old photos........

One at Keystone Drag Strip with Cragars back in the late 60's.

One on an autocross course with 8" rally wheels.

I don't think there is anything nicer than 72 spoke wires on a C2. IMHO. Bill

Centerlines - I drank the Kool-Aid on that lightweight spun aluminum wheel business on my Trans Am in the 70s. Not much of a fan now.

Note those 70s era BF Goodrich TAs. Them suckers have been around forever.

OT, but gotta ask - what is the structure? Some sort of a mine, or an abandoned ski jump?

A 1965 photo of my first Corvette. Painted in Tropic Green Fire-mist lacquer, gold pinstriping, nosed and decked with chrome reversed wheels and Michelin X tires (the only ones in my crowd)

Abandoned industrial sites are fascinating, yet depressing.

The "flower" wheels. They were very popular on C2 Corvettes back in the day.
