"That's a nice Camaro"
"what else besides your steering wheel is incorrect on your car?"
"Could I wiggle your front wheel?" I would ask if I could rub his wife's ****!!!!!
"Nice. It has an original body". (after feeling for bonding strips).
"That's a '62, right?" (my car is a '67)

Huh, a corvette? who makes that ?I would tell them it is a real off brand called Chevrolet
had a 64 split window, made early 64s with the two piece window
saddle tan, saddle leather..... is that the original color? never saw one that color.
went to get an alignment after a frame off on the 63 coupe. after some time the counter guy says you need to bring the car back, the bolts and spacers are all rusted
I said BS, you don't know what you are doing, and your guy on duty has no idea how to align a vette.

From my sign-off you can guess I once had a '58 Panama Yellow. My vanity plate was PANAMAH as in Panam Ahhh. Illinois only let you go with seven letters and no numbers at that time. A guy once let me know that I spelled it wrong, and oh by the way, what year is that?

Guy at a car show back in the late '90's when I had a '60 Corvette: "What year is it?" Me: "It's a 1960." Him: "I have a buddy who had a 1983 Vette." Me: "Wow, I'd sure like to get my hands on that one!"

Here's another for you '56 fans out there. A guy very methodically inspected my car one Saturday afternoon at one of the larger car shows, and after a lot of angst on his face he told me that I had a beautiful car but that the engine block was painted the wrong color. (Most of you know that the engine blocks in '56 were painted a deep red, not orange like the '57's up). I thanked him for his comment and told him that I would take it under advisement. This was right after I had completed my Triple Crown pursuit.

I have a 2012 Centennial Grandsport. I was wiping it off last weekend in the driveway and a guy walking his dog came over and said mannn that is beautiful! Does it have that new Camaro engine in it? I said no, just this lil' old LS3 that they put in the Vettes. He said, damn shame...woulda been perfect if it had that. I just smiled and kept wiping.

When my brother in law first saw my '65 convertible, standing right beside it, he asked if it was a split window coup
Him: Original engine?
Me: No, it's a 350.
Him: that's original.
Me: I don't think they put 350's or crate engines with vortec heads in them from the factory.
Him: Yes they did on rare occasions.
Me: So I have a rare one? I had no idea.
Him: You bet you do. heck into it.
Me: Will do, thanks.
Him: My 69 Super Bee can beat this.
Me: Probably so as I don't race this one.
Him: Yup, it would beat this all day long. You only XYZ in there.
Me: Ok, let's meet at the strip.
Him: Oh I can't. I wrecked it in 72. Wrapped it around a pole and into a 2nd floor window.
Me: 45 years ago and you walked away? Amazing.
I love the tuxedo silver paint job. Is that original to the car?
Him: You know the outside shell of the these corvette doors are metal and not fiberglass?
Me: (like a big dummy) No, they are fiberglass but there is metal parts inside.
Him: Knock, knock, knock, hmm, this one is fiberglass.
At which point he starts walking around the car. I catch him before he reaches the door and assure him that it's the same as the other one.
Not all are like the above. Most folks are super nice and very appreciative, with many heart warming friendly comments.

Had my 62 at a car show a couple years ago when i guy walks up and opens the passenger side door then proceeds to slam it closed... i said what the phuc are you doing,,, he opens the door a few more times and slams it each time and says to me as he walks away,,, sure made them solid back then eh
another show i had a 29 Ford Model A sitting out in the middle of a field and after walking and viewing other cars i decide to go back to check on mine.. to find an older gentleman sitting inside like it was his car
so i walk up and put my foot on the running board and he gives me the evil eye,,, so i stood there and talked to him (about his car) for a few minutes before i told him it was mine and could he please get out
he just smiled got out and walked away

Occasionally, when someone asked, "what year is it", I will say, it's 2016, where have you been? My wife hates it and said I'm being an azz. I try not to say it when she's around.

I haven't had any bad experiences like you guys have had...
But then again, I am stationed in Germany, where C2s are pretty rare. When I took the car to shows, I would put the hood up (Nobody else does this... at least at the shows I went to). And, of course, Germans are drawn to engines like bees to flowers....
The German car guys are always amazed at what is inside the engine bay. While mine was just a base 67' they couldn't believe we were using 4-wheel disc brakes and such big engines.
One guy couldn't believe it had an Alternator... as I guess a lot of everyday euro cars were still using generators in the late 60s.
Lots of fun!

I get more annoyed at the show car crowd with the way overdone cars at cruise nights that look down their noses at the survivor or driver cars than the guy who says he had a 67 split window coupe with the removable hardtop.
You know the type..they have all the placards and trophies out and the stuffed doll that looks like a little kid crying against the side of the car.

with my 63 coupe at a local show (the Netherlands europe) one guy asking is that a Jaguar ? i was left dumbfounded
or my uncle one day with his 65 big block top flight/duntov
one guy telling him the 396 big block was an Impala only option
he was sure because he had the brochure to back that up
