with my 63 coupe at a local show (the Netherlands europe) one guy asking is that a Jaguar ? i was left dumbfounded
or my uncle one day with his 65 big block top flight/duntov
one guy telling him the 396 big block was an Impala only option
he was sure because he had the brochure to back that up

Huh, a corvette? who makes that ?
had a 64 split window, made early 64s with the two piece window
saddle tan, saddle leather..... is that the original color? never saw one that color.
went to get an alignment after a frame off on the 63 coupe. after some time the counter guy says you need to bring the car back, the bolts and spacers are all rusted
I said BS, you don't know what you are doing, and your guy on duty has no idea how to align a vette.

My car is a 67 big block, silver pearl, black stinger, black interior, and black vinyl hardtop. The paint along with the black trim is often described, as spectacular. The first time I showed the car, after a full restoration I was told it would have been a nice car, but I ruined it by putting a Mercedes top on it. I agreed, but made him admit, I did a nice job making it fit

I get those question too, but I often get questions from Corvette people and NCRS guys asking why I drive and use it when it's only 1 of 700 made . So rare!!
Answer= It's my car and the tear Drop trailer gets more question then the Corvette

My Wife was never big on riding in my 64 convertible, but one day she was with me while sitting at a red light, when a guy pulls up next to us, looks over and says "Wow, she's gorgeous" I said, hey you shouldn't be talking about my wife like that.....He got it and drove off chuckling. My wife likes to go for rides more often now....

Yeah since this happened in the netherlands I can assure you, that if he had asked "what a chevelle SS396 had under the hood", the guy would have answered yeah but a chevelle is a dodge that's different.

questions
Guys, I am compiling a list of "things people have said and asked you about your car at car shows". A few examples, "Is this your '58 Corvette?" as I am wiping it down. "I used to have one just exactly this except it was a '60, was red with red interior and had a crate engine in it". How about, "can I take a picture of my dog in your front seat?"
You get the picture. These were usually said at show 'n shines where many of the people were not car people, but loved to look at great cars. So, share some of those moments with us. Thanks.

Although I have not had nearly as much entertainment as you guys have; In Hawaii several years ago a British Lady from Singapore asked me if my C6 Corvette was the new Ferrari.

Now that's a whole different situation that I am sure we have all experienced. I recall a show where I was lined up along the perimeter of the show field, so I was looking out across an open field. As I was talking with fellow car owner, we looked up and about 100 feet away from us coming at us with full force and intent was a twin baby stroller that had to be at least four feet wide. Of course there were at least four women accompanying this twin stroller and at least three other small children in tow. As we both broke into a cold sweat, we positioned ourselves to each side of my car in order to block their passage. Disaster diverted!!

I'm sure many (if not most) of us have our own "near miss" stories at car shows as well. I remember years ago this was rarely an issue, but it seems that common courtesy and common sense are no longer as common as they once were. I've had to chase people out of my '62 a few times - what in the world would make anyone think they could just climb in and make themselves at home in someone else's classic Corvette? That, and the unsupervised kids who don't seem to know any better than to put their hands (and noses, and food) all over your car. I understand why many of my friends no longer attend shows.
Now, on the other side of the coin, just one or two respectful, polite spectators who ask reasonable questions and act responsibly will keep you coming back every time. I have invited a few to climb in and have a seat. Made their day - and mine. I especially try to keep the kids interested . . . after all, they are the future of our hobby.

My car was hit by a wheelchair at a show; no kidding!
I wasn't there to prevent it, but a buddy said the wheelchair attendant turned sharply and the foot rest hit the lower fascia under the front bumper. Fortunately it was an inconspicuous area and can only be seen from the ground level.

When I had my 63 on the trailer taking it to the paint shop, I stopped at a big convenience store/restaurant to fill up. Guy walks out, goes around the car, and says "That's gonna be a nice Mustang when you're through with it". "Thanks"

I also enjoy the "resident quizmasters" at the local shows (you don't see them so much at the big nationals) who start every comment with "Did you know that . . . " - and then proceed to spout off the most egregious nonsense you've ever heard. Just nod and smile, friends.
Just nod and smile.

I do not like doing the car shows too much. I might do one or two a year to see the other
cars there and do not even hangout by my car.
That being said my car is a driver , and i drive it more than my C7.
I enjoy talking to the people at the gas station, or parking lots as i get in and out
of car.. I have found most of people quite pleasant, and understand that
most lack the knowledge to even know what year my car is.. all you have
to do is look at my lic plate.
It is all good , sometimes you are delayed by 15-20 minutes with a pleasant conversation
about corvettes.
All is good !!!! Ride on!!!!
