What did he just ask me?
Guys, I am compiling a list of "things people have said and asked you about your car at car shows". A few examples, "Is this your '58 Corvette?" as I am wiping it down. "I used to have one just exactly this except it was a '60, was red with red interior and had a crate engine in it". How about, "can I take a picture of my dog in your front seat?"
You get the picture. These were usually said at show 'n shines where many of the people were not car people, but loved to look at great cars. So, share some of those moments with us. Thanks.

I have friend with a '69 Chevelle SS 396 (original 396).
Anyway, it is pretty much a standing joke, people come up and tell him: "I had one just like this. Except it was green. And it was a '71. And it was a station wagon. And it was a Pontiac.

I was asked if my '61 had the retractable hardtop.
Naturally I said, "Of course!"

"Nice Thunderbird!"
I also get a lot of "Is that a James Bond Car?"
The silver paint has a bit to do with the second.

I've had a couple of people ask me if my 61 was one of the early metal ones and then knock on the fender to test it.
They also insist that the cove was supposed to be white, even though most came in a single color.

Favorite questions & comments I've received regarding my '62 at car shows:
- "Why does your car only have four tail lights? Real ones had six."
- "That's not a real Corvette color. They were only red or white."
- "I had one of the rare steel ones."
- "Too bad it only has the 327. The 427 is worth a lot more."
- "It's not a real one. All the real ones were convertibles."
- "Hey, look! This guy put a Stingray rear end on an old Corvette!"
By far the majority of these (and countless other remarks that we've all heard a million times) come from husbands or boyfriends trying to impress their wives or girlfriends with how much they know about Corvettes. I rarely correct them - there's no point in it, and you will never successfully convince them they are wrong. I just sit back and enjoy the show, and get a good chuckle out of it.

Instead, I just ask them which year Corvette they have. Most of them just walk away quietly at that point.

Everything always gets repeated...
Guy: What year is it?
Me: 62
Guy: 62
Guy : How long you own it?
Me: 20 years.
Guy: 20 years.
I always get a kick out of that because it happens every time.

I was at gas station one time when lady asked me what year my car was. I told her it was a 57. She said, "are you sure? My friend has one just like this and it's a 58". I told her I was pretty sure what I had.

"That's a nice Camaro"
"what else besides your steering wheel is incorrect on your car?"
"Could I wiggle your front wheel?"
"Nice. It has an original body". (after feeling for bonding strips).
"That's a '62, right?" (my car is a '67)

Huh, a corvette? who makes that ?
had a 64 split window, made early 64s with the two piece window
saddle tan, saddle leather..... is that the original color? never saw one that color.
went to get an alignment after a frame off on the 63 coupe. after some time the counter guy says you need to bring the car back, the bolts and spacers are all rusted
I said BS, you don't know what you are doing, and your guy on duty has no idea how to align a vette.

I left. I wouldn't have let them align it anyway, but was willing to show they how it was done.

In one short afternoon when I had our '54 at Ruby's cruise night I had a guy thank me for bringing it out because "you never see them any more." While I was talking to him a guy walks up and asks "What kind of car is this?" The guy who thanked me said "It's a Corvette." And that's when the argument started. The guy proceeded to tell him he knew Corvette's and this isn't one and that it was obviously a kit car, then told him all Corvette's had a V8. When he was shown the Corvette emblem on the front the guy said if it was really a Corvette it was hard to spot since it now has custom tail lights, the door handles have been removed, and no stick shift.
