Backup Camera
I wonder how hard it would be to install a backup camera? I had and still have one on my Dodge Ram Truck, it came with my Tow Package but no bigger then the camera is it would be kind of hard for someone to see. I just wonder how hard it would be to install and setup a screen in the console some place.

I would Frankie but I am old school I do not have a smart phone. I am probably the only guy in Indiana and on the Forum who don't have a Smart phone. But that is OK I don't need all that stuff on my phone.

Well at any rate - it works with the right gizmos - like new fangled smartphones; its great for backing onto the 4 post lift.

Wrong! I still have the old flip phone also. It works and I don't need all those other features as they would confuse the hell out of me.

Camera:
Phone Holder:
I would go with this as its cleaner than my mount:
Bear in mind that you need a pretty strong processor in your smartphone to process the video or it can freeze when the car is moving. My old Samsung would do this...newer iPhones and Androids are fine.

I wouldn't leave the house without a cell phone; especially in a 53 year old car.
Just break down somewhere and see how many people stop to help.....things aren't like they used to be. Some might just stop - but not with good intentions....
Get in a serious accident where you are injured and see who calls for help if you can't...
HINT: It won't be all the @holes taking smartphone videos of the wreck to put on Youtube....they'll film you bleeding out pal and be giddy about it...

I wonder instead of a smart-phone you can use an Apple iPod or iPad mini and not have the phones monthly cost? Look it up on Google'

Tell me how 9-1-1 works on an iPad/iPod....seriously I can't believe this is even a debate..
You're driving a $100,000+ split window and worrying about $30 (or whatever) a month limited plan to protect your investment and your health...the logic escapes me...
I have nothing more to add on the topic...

I just went through this effort on my wife's 2013 Ford Escape. Was not an option on the 2013 Escape, but became an option in 2014.
Her Escape has a navigation system, so we were able to use that screen.
In the absence of a navigation screen, other optionws are a rear view mirror with a built in screen, a smart phone, a separate display screen, or some GPS systems.
So decisions to be made are:
1. What type of screen do I want?
2. Where will the screen be located?
3. What type of camera do I want?
4. Will I use wireless camera to screen or run a wire between the two.
I heard enough issues with the wireless systems that I went with a wired unit between the camera and the navigation screen.
The easiest way to start is the google "adding rear view camera tp whatever vehicle you are thinking about"? Someone has already done it and posted the instructions on the internet.

Member wmf62 added a rear view camera & radio/nav/rear viewing screen to his Solstice coupe, but the radio/screen is a 2 DIN size, and think something smaller would work for an early Vette.

I do have an I Pad. But I see couples setting in a in nice place to eat and both are on the I phones texting each other when they are right across the table from them. Now how smart is that .

I don't care if your cell phone is dumber than a bag of hammers if it will just dial 911 and take pics of accident damage and license plates.
