[C2] Epic Father/Son Engine Swap Thread With Pics
#21
Great project. Your dad had class. I was one of Uncle Sams Misguided Children ( Marine Corps ) . They taught me two things, one, how to manage on 96 dollars a month and two survive in a disease infected swamp filled with rice paddies in the far east for thirteen months and four days. I don't advertise for the military. The better informed got deferments.
My dad was never into cars. I rebuilt a 1959 MGA engine for my first experience at 15. Made a few dollars selling it and bought a 57 Chevrolet hardtop. Another bad engine project but it turned out well. Great ride. My son helped rebuild a Ford Ranger and a year old Toyota Solara hit in the front. Two hundred and fifty thousand miles later he bought a new Edge. I think the blue oval made a friend. No interest in Corvettes other than the later selling value.
I think it is important to get the younger generation acquainted with hand tools and associated tasks. One learns by doing, not watching a video on the net.
As far as replacing an engine in one of our cars, ...... if I didn't rebuild a 327, 350, or 427 I would go with an LS series combination. The 427 I stuffed back in the 66 because i always wanted an old big block car. The rest of the fleet ( minus the FI car ) will have original blocks lined up in the storage space collecting dust.

Really nice write-up and details on the swap. Love making those memories with your son.
My '60 was passed along to me from my Dad...
Enjoy!

I'm trying to get him to get on a plane, but he needs to understand there's no getting the car back now...

Nice write up and great results. I had an engine shipped by Saia as well and they dropped it - and then fought my claim. Nice that you had better results.

bcwaller,
I didn't get to choose the carrier, the motor included free shipping. Of course, I opened it while the driver was still there...Buying from them was super easy.

Great write up..... Being a Massachusetts native, I really loved seeing the "66 MASS" tag on it. I remember them from when I was a kid. Good luck with the new motor and thanks for your service to our wonderful country.

Benton,
Changing a power valve this am and will pick up the requisite steaks this afternoon in preparation for your visit, as well as hot dogs for the kiddies. The pool and trampoline are ready!
