Default Alternator rebuild

anyone have a good place for a alternator rebuild. I found my stock one in bag of parts and wanted to get it rebuilt Plus glass beading and helicoil in top bolt.

Its for a 67 37amp car. 1100693 . I live in CT but don't mind shipping. Lars and John Pirkle don't do them anymore and Jerry MCNeish has a 8 month turnaround.

You can almost certainly find a local shop to get it running if that's all you want -- that's what I do. If you want an NCRS restoration and date coded diodes, etc. that's a different ballgame.

For NCRS quality I would contact Ken Bruno...........since John Pirkle is no longer doing business.

Hemmings has a list of rebuilders if you are interested, but you should be able to handle a decent rebuild locally.

An hour north of you is Chip's Auto Electric, 121 Park Ave, East Hartford, CT 06108 Phone: (860) 528-4107. He has done two for me, good guy, good work, fair price.

Back in the day, more than 10 years ago, I gave my alt to a rebuild shop in Boulder. He returned it with ‘new’ front/rear bolts. I was so glad I demanded that he masked the S/Ns on the front 1/2 of the alt body, the stampings are still crisp. “ the sand blasting won’t do any damage”…. Could have screwed me more (not his fault).
I was a young pup back then.

After restoring hundreds of parts by using a media blaster, I have never, ever had a stamped part number degenerate or be diminished by a media blaster. It will not happen, period.

I found a guy in Bronx NY that can rebuild it. He said he tumbles the cases in steel shavings or something like that? He said is shouldn't hurt the date code. All I am looking for is a good rebuild using USA parts and preserve the date on face of alternator . Has anyone heard of the steel shavings approach.

I haven't but I don't know how that wouldn't be abrasive...and when somebody says "shouldn't" be wary...

Do some research on the internet. You might be surprised how simple they are to rebuild. The parts are available at NAPA and are cheap. You could probably hire the machine shop behind the NAPA store to glass bead your housing. This way your number matching, date coded housing will stay in your control. And you will be able to brag "I rebuilt it myself."
