All the vendors make a vinyl strip that sits on the deck lid for this purpose - or you can make your own from rubber tool box drawer lining or old rubber floor mats... C1 version:

I used a vendor protector for a pattern and then cut one of my own out of a thicker piece of rear window vinyl

That's the ticket -- get it at an auto upholstery supply dealer.

I applied some Vaseline to the rubber now an then

and also at the top of the seats cushions to stop squeaking when the back cushion gap is tight to the soft top lid like originally

Agree with Copper. After experiencing deck lid paint damage (BC/CC) likely from outgassing of these clear vinyl 'protectors', I now use Vaseline or silicone dielectric grease on the contact surface of weatherstrips . Tried the thin, 'clear-tastic' stuff from the usual suspect vendors & also made my own from much thicker 20 gauge sheet -- encountered same result.

Anybody that wants the above mentioned protectors -- one for hardtop, one for soft top (midyear) -- PM me, pay shipping & they're yours.

have NEVER had a problem, even after getting water under it from rain or washing.
