58 vette intake and carb
From the other posts I am helping my friend get a handle on his 58. As of now it has a mystery motor (283). The intake is a holley spread bore with a Holley square bore interfaced with a thin adapter plate. There is an intake leak around this adapter. Our plan is to find a period correct intake and carb.
I gather that the original intake pattern was for an AFB carb. Does this have the same pattern as a Holley? Or are they their own creation.
Our goal is to have a period correct looking intake and carb with a functionable assembly for choke apparatus, air cleaner etc.
What intakes and carbs would work for a period correct look???
Did the general change much in design in cast iron medium horse engines with AFB carbs??
And last, if anyone knows were I could obtain the intake and carb that would be great.
Thanks
Mark

Re: 58 vette intake and carb (ghostrider20)
58's used an iron intake (casting #3746829) with a Carter WCFB 4-barrel (#2669S); the WCFB (forerunner to the 1st-generation AFB) is the only carb that will fit on that intake. If you have trouble locating these, you might try a '62 300hp intake (casting #3799349, cast iron), or a '62 340hp intake (casting #3795397, aluminum), both of which which accept the early Carter AFB (#3269S) - the '62 intakes would probably be easier to locate. The first setup will be exact, and either of the '62 setups wil be pretty close (at least with the air cleaner installed).

Re: 58 vette intake and carb (JohnZ)
Thanks JohnZ.
Our goal right now is to obtain a period correct look and getting an assembly (carb/intake) that interface well.
Thanks for the numbers John, I will have something to look for now.
