Default AC Delco RapidFire Plugs for a 327/300?

Anyone know which type of RapidFire to use? And what the gap would be for use with a Pertronix Ignitor I?

I spoke with a friend (parts) at a GM dealer. The equivalent of R45S is RF#7. The gap with Pertronix is 0.040-0.045". I purchased a set.

A quick Google search turned up the following:

There's something wrong with that chart. The fifties and sixties "base" and "high performance" small blocks used the same OE spark plug.

Use the AC/Delco catalog to cross a 45 or R45 to a Rapidfire, but keep in mine that heat range equivalent is not guaranteed.

Personally I think the Rapidfires are as much gimick and good technical design. Plain old two dollar spark plugs work just fine if your distributor and wires are in decent shape.

I use Rapidfires and think they foul less than normal plugs which I have trouble with on my 64 327/300. I have logged greater fuel economy with other vehicles when I put them in but hard to tell on my Vette. I just took a triip and got 19 mpg at 75 mph and don't know if that's good for a Vetter but that's not a major concern obviously. A lot of people like NGKs better; not sure if they are or not. I also just recently put in a Petronix Ignitor and it says in the directions, which I'm looking at right now, to set the gap to between .010 on the low end and not more than .060 on the high end. I just bolted it to the bottom of a new rotor and the gap was fine as is. I can tell it starts & runs better. Don't buy the Petronix coil if you have ignition shielding - I did and the f#$%@#&g thing won't fit because it is taller than the stock one. Would like to get a hotter coil that if I can find a shorter one.

Duke,
I used them in my 1979 L-82 for several years with very good results. I honestly can't say they were better than a normal plug but they certainly never failed me. And one can put a price on that factor if pressed. The ones I purchased yesterday were platinum. I do not recall them being so when they came out about 1996. Perhaps that will add to longevity although with the type of mileage I clock each year (~1,000) they will last for a number of
years!

My Pertronix instructions say about 0.005" over factory recommendations which I believe is 0.035". They came out of the box about 0.045" and I left them as such.

i have used the rapid fire #7 in my 67 . and they have never fouled on me like the regular ac's. and i am guilty of not changing them for about two years once. i normally change them every a year.
can't help with gap. as i use a spark box.
just my two cents worth.

i used the slang spark box for the ignition capacitive discharge units sold by msd, crane and others. i use the crane HI6 unit w/built in rev. limiter.

I had the car out today for the first drive after those plugs were put in. We had a break in the weather so one last-last ride for 2003 before the nasty weather begins. Did about 40 miles in city and highway driving. Wow, the car runs just fine. With no evidence of fouling or fart at idle, stumble on acceleration. I can put it in winter storage in 10 days with peace of mind!

This MUST be a record for longevity.
