Tachometer face replacement
I have pulled the instrument cluster on my 66 roadster and all the gauges. I need to replace the tachometer face. (The face is very rusty) I thought I would ask before I pull the face and damage something, if anyone out there has done this before. It looks like two screws hold the face on but I am not sure how the needle disconnects. The parts look extremely fragile. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there a supplier for the trip odometer tumblers or numbers? The painted numbers on mine have cracked and fallen off. Thanks again.

You just lift straight up on the needle hub, but if it is as rusty as you say, it might not want to come off. You will need to readjust the calibration if you remove everything. It would be best to take it to a qualified speedometer repair shop.

They sell new licensed GM tachometers on EBAY. I can't vouch for the quality and I don't know if they'll pass judging but they're $65.
I was going to out a new face on but I figured that I should get a whole new gauge for $65.

...if you're real careful, you can pop the needle off by pushing down on the handles of two flat screw drivers whose blades are wedged behind the needle hub...also, much fun to watch the needle go straight up and land somewhere behind the bench :D

You might try grinding a small slot in a piece of thin and rigid plastic or metal just big enough for the tachometer shaft and under the needle. Bend it in an "L" shape so you can pull straight up. Slide it in under the needle making sure the pressure points are under the circular portion of the needle and pull up.
never been tested... but an idea

All good ideas but heres the way it needs to come off ...this is the SAFEST....Take the needle in the center chrome hub and twist it COUNTER-Clockwise and lift ....the needle is on a tapered shaft turning it counterclock wise will help "ease the taper" and you can lift it up from there.
Email me if I can be any help on that cluster or parts for it ..I can get anything.

Yes and No...it will work for the speedo and Tach ...for any year(except an electronic Tach) ....the other gauges..Fuel/Temp are floaters...pull them and you'll loose calibration all together...Battery and oil are the same way...C1s the small gauge needles don't come off without serious work.
