1966-67 Headrests-Pics Would be Appreciated
This may be my next project. I would appreciate pics of the general look and how the mounting shaft passes through the top of the seat and is trimmed. I will be getting my seats re-done in the spring and may take this one additional step. Thanks.

I checked out the AIM and priced the parts/prices at Corvette America. Ouch!! They are expensive....

I bought the entire headrest assembly from Zip, had the interior frame welded on. It's pretty straightforward, cost about $1000 for everything. Below are the pictures I have.

I did the same project as FXT, and used the same hardware, but it came from Volunteer Products. It went very well. I like the result and the look. It wasn't cheap, but I like to drive my car a lot, so the headrests were a must for me. I have done some automotive crash analysis, and believe me, the headrests are a good investment, right up there with brakes!!
Good luck.

It's a safety issue with me as well. My shoulder belt thread showed step one in that direction. This step two may be a little too expensive...I will have to think about it.

If you are handy with tools and have enough equipment, welder etc. the reciever in the seat can be fabricated. I do it some times. This will save a bunch and all you need then is the headrest themselves.

I an in the process of doing mine now. The cheapest place I found and I ordered them yesterday for the headrest conversion was Long Island Corvette. Conversion $200.00. That is the metal supports that go in the seat.
2 top escutcheons $20.00 each. I ordered the headrest units from Al Knoch. ($472.50) Total cost $712.50 plus the welder to weld in the support.

I might consider doing this also. Question for those who know, can you do it to existing seats without ruining the existing seat covers? My upholstery is good, so I would like to reuse it.

I assume you just put a small slit in the top of the back cover. But from what I have seen the narrow chrome trim over the top of the seat back is not re-used??

You will have to remove your seat cover to install the headrest bracket inside the seat. It has to be welded in attaching to the top and side of the back seat frame. Once this is installed you can reattach the seat cover. I have not received the brackets yet. Looking at the assembly manual the bracket upper mounts with the head rest slot on the top of the seat and therefore your headrest goes in the opening in the top seat cover and not the back plastic cover. The bezel covers the opening on the seat cover not the plastic back.
I will let you know in 1 week. I should have my bracket intalled in the seat by then.

BTW removing the upholstery was a snap, and I'd never done it before. Just cut the hog rings that attach the seatback upholstery to the seat frame, and lift off the upholstery and seatback foam as a unit. After getting the headrest brackets welded into the seat backs, set the upholstery onto the seatback and squeeze on the new hog rings to reattach the upholstery to the frame. You don't have to remember where the old hog rings went, just add new ones until the seat cover is smooth and tight. I bought a cheap set of jog ring pliers for $7 and a box of hogrings at the local hardware store for $2. Magazine articles make it seem as if you have to buy $25 hog ring pliers, but you don't unless you attach upholstery every day for a living.
