65 HEI Install?

Re: 65 HEI Install? (Vougesmokr)
Umm, not sure of the question but here goes. (1) Look in the book for the location of #1 on the HEI to make sure the vac can does not interfere with your intake manifold. (2) Plug wire connections are different on the HEI at the cap. (3) You do not need the old points external coil or ballast resistor anymore. (4) Tach drive would be needed on the HEI or your mechanical tach will not work. I think that's it. If it was me I'd just install any of the aftermarket electronics in your old points dist. but that's just me.

I, too, struggled with this. I had a billet mallory dual point that was nothing but trouble (dwell constantly changing) I wanted an HEI but the 'ol tach drive screwed me up. I went with the pertronics module and never looked back - HUGE improvement in power and spark! Took about 5 minutes to install. Also went with their flamethrower coil.
