1962 Convertible Corvette, What Is It Worth ?
First, I would like to thank every one who replies to this posting. I have found a 1962 Convertible Corvette seized by the Bailiff and I'm trying to find out if it's a good investment. The body is in great shape but needs a proper paint job, not a splash and dash, the car has all of the original chrome intact, the tires and mages are not original, the soft top and interior are in good shape, the engine numbers read K05, could be a 68-69 327 and I think the car came from the factory with a 283, engine needs a new starter, VIN are missing. The Bailiff said they would be looking for around 13,000 to 14,500 USD. I do have two best friends in the automotive industry with restoration capabilities. It seems that this could be a costly endeavor but I would be willing to spend up to 30,000 USD. I haven't seen many 1962 Convertible Corvettes for sale, can I make this scenario work or should I keep on shopping

If the car actually is all there and runs and drives, $15K USD would be an absolute steal, IMHO.

Thanks for the info, can I find a 1962 engine and restore the car for $15,000. What future value would I be looking at?

Not many of us can speak to Corvette values in British Columbia. In the US 14K is a excellent bargin if the body is unhit and the frame is free of serious rust.
Provided you can get a clean bill of health from law enforcement that will allow you to title the car, this is a slam dunk.
Otherwise, you could bring the car down here to the US or put on eBay and sell for parts if it doesn't work out.
By the way, ALL 53 - 62's are convertibles....

For your info, 62 was the first year for the 327 engine, so size wise, your already there.
As for how much to "restore" it will cost, depends on your goals (will it be restored for "Trailer Queen" purposes, or be a very nice driver (and the heck with complete originality)? Do you want it completely original and numbers matching, etc. (kind of difficult if the original engine is gone, but people have been known to do it)?
For a start, get some catalogs from the major C1 Corvette suppliers (Corvette Central, ZIP, Paragon, etc.) and then find out what you will need to fix / replace, and start adding up the numbers. Some items are priced OK, and some are out of sight! Then determine what you can do (as opposed to what needs to be farmed out - like paint, etc.), and start getting some quotes.

We paid 22K for the 62 I'm doing, both tops, no motor or trans, previous hit on left front, repair done very badly. All the important stuff there.
I just put a Jim Meyer Racing front end under it, man is that nice stuff
It is a bolt in so far just like they advertise.

The latest issue of Corvette Enthusiast by Cars & Parts magazine has it's annual feature on values of all Vettes. Value on mine went up around 18% (I THINK; issue is down in the garage) since 2003
