Wanted 59 283 engine
I am looking for a rebuildable 1959 283 engine or a properly dated block or short block. A short block is preferred but I will consider any and all combinations. The block must be a Flint casting with an assembly date of late Feb 1959 to Mid march 1959 with a suffix code of CQ/ CT/ CU/. I will consider suffix codes DG and DJ. I can’t use any pad stamp past F 3 25. No re-stamps. Standard bore or slightly over. Casting date should be sometime in Feb 59 to early March 59 and prior to the assembly date. The closer to Philadelphia, Pa. the better.

Dick:
I don’t know why I can’t seem to contact you directly via email and have to go through the forum, there may be a problem with your email. So I’ll try again here.
In any event, 3 days ago I sent you an email containing questions I had about the info you sent me regarding the block. As a NCRS Master Judge, I know you realize how important it is to get all of the information correct.
In my email I asked you to address the following questions:
1. Why did you attach all of those pictures of the freeze plugs?
2. You had stated that the block was a standard bore and attached a picture of a caliper measuring that bore. What appears strange is that the right caliper blade is sitting inside the right side of the cylinder and shows the proper dimension but the left blade appears to be about ¼ inch short of the inside of the cylinder. Also you indicted that the pistons have .040 stamped on them, are we talking the same block?
I also asked that you send me a phone number and times to call that would be convenient for you. I would like to talk to you about the block and see if we can arrange a time for me to look at it.
Thanks
Steve
