Just so you know here is just one of the MANY things I found on the new referring to the "reattaching" of a VIN tag.
10.7.51 of the CA. motor vehicle code:
It is illegal to remove or alter the vin # of a motor vehicle.....Should an altered vin # be
encountered (which includes method of attachment) at best the tag is seized, and a state tag will
be placed on the vehicle in place of the original (that'll really help if you ever go to sell the car).
Should the vehicle not have a secondary #, to authenticate its identity, the vehicle will be crushed.

This isn't retagging, looking for something that can be built off of, he bought parts car, missing frame, etc.....looking for somthing to build of of with VIN. The current vehicle is a pile of parts. This would be a salvage car, but would help in titling so it can be registered. He doesn't need a full chassis or body.
There are plenty of one of a kind or low production cars that have been built from little to nothing left of the chassis. Purpose of "cloning" laws is to make sure stolen vehicles are not being laundered. This is a ground up build.

"Hope you friend(yea right) likes"
-No, it is not me, although I like the 63s, could not afford one, nor could I afford to build one. Also would have coupe not convert.
10.7.51 of the CA. motor vehicle code:
-Each state has different laws....and a violation of CA motor code is not a "federal offense"
As a ZR-1 owner, most of us know that the original protypes that were rebuilt were done by combining parts of the original cars with a donor chassis, as the original cars were completely crushed.
