Default 502 Crate Motor-->Any dyno numbers and cam upgrades?

Hello,

I'm curious as to whether anyone with a GM 502 crate motor has had that thing dyno'd (Chassis dyno really).

Also, I would be curious as to what performance upgrades you have done and what the results were. Cam swaps would be of particular interest.

Regards,

Bryan

Bryan, my motor started as a 8.75 to 1 502HO Gen V crate with hydraulic flat tappet cam and iron rect. port heads. It made 355 at the wheels through a Muncie and stock rear end. I decked the block put SRP 10.2 to 1 pistons in, AFR 315 heads, solid flat tappet cam 258 @.050, .615 lift, out of the box Holley Strip Dominator, and Holley 950HP. This combo made 615. I have since added fully ported Vic Jr. and Had Pro-Systems rework the carb so I would think I am around 630 at the crank. Chassis dyno to come.

Bry,'

I gotthe 502/502 long block. That is, the heads down to oil pan. I put on my own intake

I got the Edelbrock EFI, and it bolted right on

With headmans headers, motor out of car, on a dyno, the best I could pull was 547 hp. Whats great about this efi set up, is you can save 3 parameters. This is one of them I saved, plus a "economy" (highway) setting, and street setting

I changed NO internals

Great information guys!

69ttop502 - Nice numbers. I look forward to seeing those chassis numbers as well.

MELVINJ - Interesting. Looks like the 502 HP rating may be a bit on the conservative side. That's good news.

MassVette - Thanks for that tidbit. I will be quite happy if we get close to that 420 rwhp mark. What headers/exhaust are you running for that? Also, what rear end gear are you running?

Horsepower TV did a crate comparison a while back. The RamJet 502 made 400 RWHP in a '70 Chevelle.
