Default Steering Wheel Removal

I need to remove the steering wheel hub from my 79 vette, for which i need a steering wheel puller..... however, do i need a special puller for this car?.. or can i just go and buy any old puller? What does a puller look like??

Any cheap steering wheel puller should do fine. It looks like a bar threaded in the middle with a bolt through it. Either side of the bar has slots. It has 2 bolts that thread into the steering wheel hub through the slots. Tighten the center bolt in to bar (after you remove the nut) and the hub comes right off.

If you have the tele/tilt column, you don't need any special tools to pull the steering wheel.

The wheel has screws that hold it to the hub, but he said he wanted to remove the hub.

If you have a chiltons manual it talks about it in detail. You'll need a couple of 5/8 inch nuts to use as spacers...I've got to pull mine soon to replace a switch...

Good Luck !
