How big is big man....I got enough clearance to run Tractor tires under my 79....fender flares if done wrong can look nasty. Not trying to talk you out of flares just my .02 cents

69myway's website has a good tutorial on how to put a set of ACI L88 flares on an '80.
http://mcspeed.homestead.com/Flare_Install.html
I have plans of doing this to my project 80 car instead of fighting the wheel well constraints. I'm flaring it to get 12's under the rear.
I do have a question though, is this a different flare from the L88 flare that Pat & Howard are describing as 2 1/2"?

Yes, the l88 flares are 4 inches wide. Pat, what kind of flares do you have? I have looked around can not find any rear flares that are less then 4 inches wide. That is just a little too wide to me.

Here are the pic's of the '80 on 69myways site. Looks awfully good to me. I'm wondering though how much wheel and tire you could get under the 2 1/2" flares? jim

I like the flare look as long as you have the tires and wheels to fill it up.You don't want the flare to stick out past the tire.
rosslato, and 69myways have it right, awsome cars.

Love the big flares...you knew I would, but man, what about that georgous paint job? The flairs are the LEAST of the expense. A paint job will cost you over $1,000 unless you can do it yourself, even then the materials will kill you. Check prices on paint (all of it that's needed) before you grind into your paint now. .02
Another thought. If you want to get really creative and be diffent from the herd, break the bodyseam (up near the peak) on the fender, pull it outward to give you the added width you want, then glass the opening back up, contour to shape, and it will not appear so obvious what you've done to get that extra wide tire under it. I've done it to quite a few in the past, and it looks beautiful when done right.

it's hard to see but they did just that to this car in the rear, maybe the front also not sure about that (hard to see but it looks like it's about stock width on the front)

Vanacor has molded the fenders and quarters with the L-88 flares in them. I wish someone would mold off of an expanded fender set as described above for my '80. I would want it to attach at the bonding strip and cover all of the way to the top. Then allow the use of the stock bumper and maybe an extension to bond to the door for blending.
When did you say this kit would be ready? jim
