Default HP Rating for a L48 - 1975

Question: I was looking in my repair manual and it stated there was (2) Horsepower rating for the L48 350 in 1975, nothing special but 195 and 250HP; this may be a stupid question but what is the engine difference in these ratings? I assume I can find what I have by looking on the right head? I did a search but found nothing. Any thoughts? Thanks!

look at the VIN and decode it from there. if your #'s match, you have the lower Hp model. if memory serves right, the only major difference is in valve springs and cam.

This car was my Dads original from 75; I hope it has the 250 rating!

There are many differences...Crank, pistons, 4 bolt mains, valve size, screw- in studs and guide-plates, carb, etc....

Damn; I really hope I have the higher rating. All of those fun toys; not to mention it would be senseless to have a 350 with 195 HP! The car is not my a drag car, but the extra get up and go would be nice!

Damn, 165HP! Crazy that is a 350! My GTP has 260 and it's a V6; I may have to start modding this car! I hope the Dual exhaust and Turbo mufflers will help. What else would help and would not affect the originality of the car?

What was the Corvette year with the lowest HP rating? Was it 1975 when they first went to the single catalytic converter back to a dual exhaust?

I think 75 was the lowest rating. I have a singel cat with dual exhaust! That has to come off!

Actually 1953 '54 and '55 with the 6 cylinder were the lowest - 150 and 155hp. But 1975 was the lowest with a V8. 1955 was the first year for the V8 as an option and it was 195hp I think.

Recurve and set timing as per Lars paper, add true duals and you'll jump way up in hp. Before I changed engines, I did only what I've mentioned to my stock (and tired) L-48 and ended up just over 200 rwhp on stock manifolds.

I printed Lars timing procedure; great write up! May I ask what Exhasut combo you ended up using? Mid America makes a stainless true dual system that looks nice? 200 rwhp is right where I would like to get the car!
