Default Help with the fan shroud

I was just wondering if anybody can help me with my fan shroud? I have a 73 and i need to replace my radiator. Ive disconected everything the hoses, transmission lines everything that would be in the way and the fan shroud still wont come out it is hitting against the upper a arms. Is there any trick to getting the fan shroud out?

Thanks Todd

When I replaced my engine, I was going to leave in the rad but couldn't get the shroud out. Ended up pulling the rad...had to remove rad brackets, then rad then shroud. Probably not the answer you were wanting to hear. Maybe others have a better way. Good luck.

You can probably get it out without fully removing the radiator.
By removing the radiator support bolts (3 each side in front wheel well),
the radiator/support/shroud can be tilted forward at the top
and the shroud might squeeze through. (maybe leave the bottom bolt in but loose).
Be careful of the radiator tanks hitting the frame horns while moving.

Many people struggle with these enough to cut them in half
and make them 2-piece with metal plates and screws on the sides.
Mine is gone ... electric fan ... love the room in front.

Remove the fan shroud, radiator and support as one. Remove the hood, have a helper on one side and pull up the unit. Replace the seals and what ever else you're planning on. Check the supports lower corners and weld them if rusted, paint and install. It's the best way I found to do the job.

EDIT: forgot that you need to loosen the two bolts at the bottom of the support to tilt it. (5/8 wrench)

Mine is a 75 but I have found it easiest to remove hood. Then there are 3 bolts on each fenderwell. 2 bolts underneath. it will pull right out the top with a helper.

I tried to remove the shroud once without removing the rad. I found it damn near impossible. The top of the A-Arms get in the way

Once it is out, this is a very, very good spot and time for some re-engineering. There were some posts a while back that detailed sectioning that bad boy into two far more accessible parts.
If it will ever need to come out again......

Add me to the "cut that sucker in half" camp. Mine is now held together with plates and small nuts/bolts. I can get it in or out in 5 minutes
